That worked so well on 9/11/2001, so obviously we should return to it. (it is weird how ‘effing dumb these people are: 9/11 was what led to the federalization of airport security, and after some initial hiccups…it is a system that is quite scrupulous and effective).
I’ve traveled a lot for work and TSA standards are wildly inconsistent. Think we could easily take a page from how things are handled in other countries. But I’ll take being annoyed at minor inconveniences over lax travel security policies any day.

But security is much better than pre-9/11 as that was truly a completely undstandardized free-for-all. I remember (accidentally) bringing a bag of pot back in my shaving kit. The two early-20s “security” staff just laughed when they found it and waved me through; this was around midnight in LGA (I’m glad they did, obviously).

a) why didn't you burn up and have a nice flight?
