I remember the whole Maria Butina fiasco. Figures he'd be tied to it, since he's a Republican from Louisiana.

Seems like the move to expel that came out of Ethics might have legs. It will be interesting to see how Johnson handles scheduling it. That's not a state where Hochul gets to fill it. A special election is required within 90 days of a resignation or removal in New York state.

*Texas requires primary winners to attain a majority of the vote, otherwise the state holds runoffs between the top two vote-getters in the initial primary.

If you want to know why House members in safe seats chase cameras, this is why. No one opposes AOC in the primaries because they know she'll bury them in spending, and she always wins a general. She can now just sit back and quietly build a war chest until a Senate seat opens up, the way Adam Schiff has in California. Cori Bush, by contrast, has an outstanding campaign debt of $130,000 and less than $20,000 in the bank. She also has credible primary opposition. She's in a lot of trouble.

The above is Exhibit A on why we need to get the money out of politics, if we want actual governance. An end to the gerrymandering would also help.

From the clips I've seen of the Newsom/DeSantis debate........LOL
Gen X politicians for you. Which is weird, since Gen Xers were not at all like that when they were young. We went from the generation's heroes being angsty, flannel-wearing musicians singing about pain and loss to electing these guys how? I missed something, here.

While there are valid reasons I'd be wary of Gavin Newsom making a white house run, there is something cathartic about watching someone just completely eviscerate a Republican like DeSantis, on his own turf with Hannity moderating. In terms of sheer meme spectacle which is what our politics have devolved into, it was truly something to behold

I'm just finishing up a longer post in the POTUS race thread about exactly this.
