It's hard to say what would happen with Jordan in the driver's seat. It should change his perspective somewhat. He would have more than his own reelection to worry about. Losing five seats would cost him the gavel, and probably a place in leadership altogether, and he can see what polls have said the last two weeks. He has more credibility with the extreme MAGA nutters than McCarthy, and should have more ability to drag them along to a compromise when necessary. His word that 'this is the best deal we'll get, no matter how intransigent we are' should carry more weight with them.

Would the job change him? He has McCarthy's ambition, but not his charisma. He must be securing votes by making substantive promises. Can he keep them? If he can keep Gaetz et al in line when dealing with the Senate and Biden, it could be a positive change, but can he?

Jordan in the Speaker's chair likely would either go well or very badly, without much in between.
Are you serious?

I remember some people asking that very question about a certain President-elect in 2016

We saw how that went

Jordan is considerably more rational than Trump. He wouldn't be the first fire-eater turned Speaker. Gingrich, however, had a long stint in leadership as the minority whip before taking the chair. He learned to let other fire-eaters like Kasich do the dirty work, then rein them in. He fell because he could not see that going after Clinton would cost him more moderate votes than it gained in base turnout.

Jordan is in the best position possible to manage this unruly conference, but whether he has the skills to pull it off is an untested question. One problem that Gaetz et al have is that if they turn on him, it becomes clear they'll turn on anybody. That would give the moderates a sharp shove into Jeffries' waiting arms, which is not what the legislative terrorists want. That would lead to higher spending, aid for Ukraine and quite possibly the elimination of the debt ceiling altogether.

It may well be a moot point. The second vote will tell us more about where things stand.

Such a dumb post.

Remember when Finnfan was sure Trump would win in 2020, but then Trump was utterly destroyed by Biden? And then Finnfan read on some qanon website that Trump was going to stay in power somehow and he believed it and he was telling us about it on here? And then disappeared off the site for a while because he was so embarrassed when it didn't happen? Lol what a gullible idiot

I think if that mad Vivek fella could somehow beat Trump for the Republicans, or if Trump gets made ineligible to run, then he's got a great chance of becoming President. The only reason Biden won was because he was up against somebody so hated. This war will hurt Biden badly, Americans are hurting due to the economy and a Republican win imo is nailed on as long as it isn't Trump running.

Better put all your eggs in the basket of him getting locked up/declared ineligible. Otherwise he’s going to be the Republican nominee.
