Ah, my friendly local Congressman. Really says something about the current state of the GOP when he’s calling Paul Ryan and John Boehner RINOs. Those guys are as Republican as they come.

Maybe he should get back to the issues that matter like saying there’s nothing that can be done to stop gun violence, or publicly wondering if Bigfoot is real. Maybe even see if he can take his biggest legislative accomplishment to date nationwide and legalize eating roadkill at the Federal level. That’s a true story BTW, it’s legal to eat roadkill in TN, and Burchett was the guy who sponsored the bill.

Shh Chester, she is clearly the victim of the establishment FAFO.
She’s just found out the true meaning of “cutting off your nose to spite your face”

It is a hilarious situation in general though. What an incredibly stupid way to set fire to their own party after what should’ve been a relatively routine approval of the debt ceiling.

Also funny because McCarthy is a MAGA cockroach.

Gawd knows how but the GOP are currently trouncing Dems on “best for the economy” question in election polls so you’d think the smart move would be to at least pretend to want to govern - instead they shoot the leader of the only branch of government they control (and the 3rd speaker in a row they have stabbed) causing even Fox to say “why can’t the GOP get anything done in the House”.

Unfortunately McCarthy replacement is likely to be even worse and Ukraine funding in particular is at risk.

True, however to be fair I still think that leaving him to his fate was good politics from the Dems, even if they were kinda railroaded into doing it. Realistically McCarthy was behaving like a reactionary anyway, like with the absolutely absurd impeachment enquiry that they have no evidence for, and giving the far right lunatics committee positions etc. the only massive difference is that McCarthy at least tried to pretend to behave like a serious politician, and his replacement probably won’t.

I think if he’d brought the Senate CR to a vote (which had Ukraine funding) instead of his own (which didn’t) a few Dems would have either voted present on MTV or realised they were busy washing their hair that day.

However his stunts during the weekend (not allowing 90mins to read the damn thing, blaming the Dems as the ones who wanted the shutdown after an almost unanimous vote in support for his bill, not whipping his own members for support) on top of all his other behavior meant they little incentive to bail him out of his own mess.

Plus it likely that, rather than a clean vote on Ukraine funding, he would have jammed Dems by demanding it was paired with the GOP immigration restrictions and they could foresee their vulnerable members having to make some very difficult choices in an election year. Only so many times you can assist someone who repeatedly slaps you in the face as a thankyou.

Sorry for repeating something I said when McCarthy was elected, but this is why I think the Dems should reach out to the least insane of the candidates with a plausible offer of support - something like a genuine attempt to deal with spending, reform of the house, continuing the Biden impeachment hearings and so on in exchange for sidelining the loons.
