When your enemies are drowning you throw them a cinderblock. Democrats can just sit back watch the GOP continue its slow, agonising suicide. McCarthy isn't even a Trump-loving zealot, he's a slimeball who has lied, betrayed and brown-nosed all his career to climb up the ranks. Makes him very arguably even worse than the loonies who predictably turned on him.
People who think the Dems are going to lose in 2024 unless they replace Biden must give their heads a wobble. That's the absolute last thing they should do.
The country is craving stability and continuity, even if comes with having to have an uninspiring, sleepy old man in the White House. If they oust him it just makes their party look in disarray also.
No one outside the MAGA crazies will vote Republican Party for a generation because you're basically voting for an protest movement and not for a potential functioning government.

I can't tell you the amount of people I know who vote republican, even with this carry on, because "we have to elect the good ones".
Look at Wisconsin. Trump will push Biden very close again. Who knows how much West and Kennedy might effect a state where 20 or 30k could swing it.

If they wanted to expel him entirely, the two-thirds vote is probably there. Safe seat, governor's a Republican, Democrats in the House will play ball due to the optics.
I'd venture to say 20% of the people in this country are single issue voters in opposition to abortion rights. They will not be moved. End of.

One wonders if future generations will consume material on how that lot ended up in bed with Donald Trump the same way they consume material about the Civil War and WWII. It's the result most in need of a coherent explanation in the entire history of American politics.
I know that future me is not in possession of a time machine. If he were, I would have encountered him prior to my wedding. He would have been screaming, "Stop! You don't know what you're doing! Donald Trump will win the presidency, and she will vote for him!"
Either that, or someone heard that story first and I already died in a mental hospital.
Even if they change the rules, Trump is far too lazy to want to be speaker.

I did some quick research on this one to refresh my memory. A member can bring this as a privileged question, but the person who rules on its privileged status is the Speaker of the House (Trump). He rules the question not privileged, they change the rules, problem solved.
This would be more problematic in the Senate, where the parliamentarian's word is as law by long custom, but this is the House and Trump could care less about the consequences of violating precedent. He thinks precedent is like being a soldier - for suckers.
It's easy to forget the degree to which 20th Century speakers collected as much power in the House to themselves as possible. The committee chairs still wield real power, but not the way they once did. The minority leader in the Senate wields a significant amount of power. The minority leader in the House has more or less the same tools available to the Leader of the Oppositon, which are not much more than the right to complain when bulldozed again.
