Despite Paxton's clear guilt on multiple charges, I'm told at least a half dozen R Senators in Texas feared for their safety and that of their families had they voted for a conviction.

He still faces multiple felony charges in court and a professional misconduct review by the state Bar.

In addition, multiple GOP members of the House who voted for impeachment are now receiving not only calls from their constituents and other folks demanding their resignations but also death threats.

This is what decades of talk radio, loony conspiracy podcasts, Evangelical preacher-grifters, FOX News, the NRA, and their ilk have wrought. It's simply awful.
