Only recently did Virginia move to get rid of this nonsense holiday. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it resurfaces in our State Assembly as a proposal.

I’m surprised there are any filled away , there must be just lines of any cabinets in Washington.
I don’t mean to excuse the poor records management system in place, but from my experience there are loads of documents given classified status that really don’t merit it.
It’s a well-established form of CYA within government
Clearly, there needs to be some other kind of process in place for EVERYTHING leaving the White House or the Naval Observatory (VP Residence).
Can't count on staff to do it - they're all half way out the door to new jobs as lobbyists, consultants, talk show hosts, etc. - so it will need to be a team from the National Archives that is responsible for ALL transfers of everything from furniture to files. The soon-to-be former occupants should just expect 6 months until they receive their papers.
