What confuses me though is whether she couldn’t be bothered to know the facts (Civil War monument in GA, therefore MUST be for the Confederacy), or was intentionally misrepresenting them to dog whistle to her racist base, who almost certainly weren’t going to fact check her. I’m inclined to believe the latter, because even someone as dumb as her should have SOMEONE in their orbit that would stop her from posting something so stupid by accident.I'm afraid that this is what happens when someone can't be bothered with facts. Eventually, the fact that they're creating their own reality out of whole cloth becomes incontrovertibly apparent.
I don't think it much matters. She obviously intended to dog whistle. Whether the facts supported the contention is immaterial. If she's wrong, no one she's dog whistling to will much care, anyone pointing out the factual error will never get a hearing on her side of the fence and she would just blow them off as being pedantic if it became an issue. What confuses me though is whether she couldn’t be bothered to know the facts (Civil War monument in GA, therefore MUST be for the Confederacy), or was intentionally misrepresenting them to dog whistle to her racist base, who almost certainly weren’t going to fact check her. Imagine living in a headspace where which side from a civil war a monument was dedicated to is immaterial, and pointing out that it, in fact, isn’t dedicated to the treasonous side was merely being pedantic. Yet as you correctly point out, here we are. “They were ALL Americans!” Spare me.I don't think it much matters. She obviously intended to dog whistle. Bringing this over here as you suggested.“Sus, do you think I’m a fan ?!! lol I guess you haven’t read any of my posts on the US general politics thread!
I don’t follow Gosar but just like MTG/Gaetz etc sometimes their posts come across my timeline and yes, I do think that is the messaging some segments of the GOP are getting fed regularly. Trump and Tucker Carlson are also pretty vocal against Ukraine aid and I see it at real risk depending on the results of the midterms. That is also messaging coming from Republicans themselves.

No more "blank check": Ukraine aid under threat in Republican-controlled House
Even House Republicans who have been outspoken about supporting Ukraine say there has been a noticeable shift.www.axios.com
Is it all empty posturing prior to the midterms? Could a combo of establishment GOP and remaining dems get some funding across? Probably but given GOP are promising huge swaths of cuts even potentially to things like Medicare and Social Security I don’t know what would be horse traded in negotiations. Anyhow we should probably take this to that above mentioned thread.

Social Security and Medicare eligibility changes, spending caps, and safety-net work requirements are among the top priorities for key House Republicans who want to use next year’s debt-limit deadline to extract concessions from Democrats. The four Republicans interested in serving as House Budget Committee chairman in the next Congress said in interviews that next year’s deadline to raise or suspend the debt ceiling is a point of leverage if their party can win control of the House in the November midterm elections.
I’d have thought they would have learnt that lesson from the past few times they have tried it (what is it 3 shutdown now?) but I wouldn’t be so sure. Same with the cuts to SS/Medicare - it seems a Paul Ryan wishlist that just won’t die.Bringing this over here as you suggested.
Playing with the debt ceiling is a risky move likely to backfire. The old saw about Social Security being the third rail of American politics also likely applies. A novice might not know that Social Security and Medicare can't hit the table, but Biden does. It's actually to his benefit to let the Republicans make the demand.
The way Biden gets it done is with a defense-district coalition of Republicans, most likely. If McCarthy threatens to take them off Armed Services by way of reply, they stab him in the back in the next leadership contest. The crown will rest very uneasily on McCarthy's head, and Gingrich/Armey/DeLay tactics won't work as a consequence unless McCarthy sees it the way I see it, and recognizes that the next two years will be the only ones where he can get anything done as Speaker.
If he recognizes that, he horse-trades it with them for their votes on something else he wants.

Sounds like a man lining up a run against DeSantis for the nomination. To that end, Pence criticized those in the party who have pushed a more isolationist foreign policy, particularly when it comes to Russian aggression. Earlier Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared martial law for four illegally annexed Ukrainian regions as his forces have suffered stinging battlefield defeats and renewed attacks on Ukrainian cities and vital infrastructure.![]()
Pence warns of 'unprincipled populists,' 'Putin apologists'
Former Vice President Mike Pence has warned against the growing populist tide in the Republican Party as he admonished “Putin apologists” unwilling to stand up to the Russian leader over his assault on Ukraine.apnews.com
“Now, I know there is a rising chorus in our party, including some new voices to our movement, who would have us disengaged with the wider world,” Pence said. “But appeasement has never worked, ever, in history. And now more than ever, we need a conservative movement committed to America’s role as leader of the free world and as a vanguard of American values.”
“As Russia continues its unconscionable war of aggression to Ukraine, I believe that conservatives must make it clear that Putin must stop and Putin will pay,” he added. “There can be no room in the conservative movement for apologists to Putin. There is only room in this movement for champions of freedom.”

Don’t think Pence would excite the rural/non-college crowd either.
I thought many things would stop him running in the past that somehow didn’t so I daren’t get my hopes up.I would imagine Pence only runs if Trump can't - which is a prospect that seems increasingly likely, given the e-mail release out of California.
