Current Affairs General US politics (ie, not POTUS related)

....and a poor education system as well as a lack of respect for being erudite, literate, well-read, etc.
Again, Bill Hicks and "What are you reading for." That one's literally a generation old.

Look, we have created a culture where all of the following statements: "I am important," "My wants matter," and "I am entitled to my opinion," are not insane statements even when they are backed by zero evidence. The way that shakes out should not surprise any of us. Democratizing the values of the Victorians is not a good plan. There's a stack of literature to tell us that even the elites among the Victorians were filled with self-loathing.

Direct quote from Abbott: "Before we began busing migrants to New York, it was just Texas and Arizona that bore the brunt of all the chaos and problems that come with it," the governor said in a statement this week. "Now, the rest of America can understand exactly what is going on."

"They've essentially weaponized this situation," Manuel Castro, commissioner of the (ed: New York City) mayor's immigrant affairs office, said in a recent city council hearing. "We've learned that the bus company that they've been working with has a nondisclosure agreement that does not allow them to communicate with the city of New York."

There are no saints here.

An actual saint would embrace immigrants rather than do a political stunt.

It's not even hard to filter the BS from your Fox and Friends allies.

You think I am on the side of Fox and Friends after reading that?

I'm not going to mess around at all here: if someone like me has to fully toe up to the Democratic party line on every single issue in order to be your ally, you are going to lose election after election. What I highlighted is that both sides are using actual human beings as pieces on a gameboard here. If you can't take criticism and adapt, you are going to lose to their tactical superiority. They are more cynical and more clinical. You cannot win by alienating all but your faithful.

Point blank: get off your high horse. It's why you lose.

The mask is off
There is no mask. I have been an ex-pat of the Republican Party for over a decade and a half now. I am also incredibly cynical about the efficacy of your party's tactics. I understand why what the opposition does works.

I am not one of you. That said, people like me are who you need to win. We're the difference between 60-40, and a positive result, and what you're getting, because we're persuadable. It doesn't matter that you're 55-45, because you've been getting your clocks cleaned in state houses for two decades and the Electoral College favors them. You lose on those terms.

You need the educated that don't have your native political leanings to get where you want to go. We support most of the things that you support. We'll be happy to help you move the line in the statehouses back to sanity.

Just don't expect us to support fully rewriting the social order. If you want that one, you're going to have to wait a generation. If you want results now, you need us. It really is that simple.

I respect your honesty.

Glad you've taken a minute to describe yourself.

I am not a Democrat but I won't lie they seem to align with me.

Just going to say: if we had more contentious discourse like this, without rancor, this country would be a better place. (The 'rancor' part is where our media gets off the boat.)

Thanks for working past the miscommunications to find where we can agree to disagree.
