Quite a few mainstream Republicans took a less harsh version of this line:

Rep. Tom Rice of South Carolina, who has not been shy about calling out his colleagues after voting to impeach former President Donald Trump last year, was even more pointed in his criticism.

"Madison Cawthorn has said he is here for PR and not legislating. I don't think he's a serious legislator," Rice told CNN. "I think he's more interested in throwing bombs than he is in actually trying to help the country."

"I don't think he has very much respect for the Republican conference or anywhere else," he added. "He's living in a dream land."

This feels like progress. Baby steps, but progress.

Every time I have to think he is the congressman representing my very own progressive city it makes me so mad. Hopefully he will not make it in the upcoming primary, there are several Republicans that will be competing against him that are way more qualified.

Interesting that a Democrat is representing that district. That one just screams out to my eyeball that it was drawn to dilute the political power of the North Knoxville citizens it contains. I wouldn't have thought that it was possible to elect a Democratic firebrand like that in that district.

The suburban realignment is real.

Hahaha, this is fabulous ?

WTF are they even on about at this point? Hardly any place in the country has significant COVID restrictions still in place. There’s still the mask mandate on planes and airports, but that’s almost certainly gone in less than a month.

Like that one tweet earlier in the thread pointed out, these are the same people who act like the apocalypse is upon us and they are in imminent danger of starving to death every time gas goes up $0.25 and a Democrat is in the White House, yet they’re wasting untold sums of money riding and whining about something that isn’t even real.

I'll put it bluntly: these are the dog whistle people. If they're from the South, they probably still call it the War of Northern Aggression.

Last line of the clip sums it up perfectly. They need a focus for their anger, and are easy prey for the media on any given topic.

Looking at the map, it’s a strange district. It does manage to shoehorn a ton of areas where a lot of minorities live, but also includes Sequoya Hills, which is as close to going back in time to the Old South as you are likely to ever encounter. Kind of surprising that kind of old money doesn’t have the political pull to get drawn into a district that better represents them.
