I strongly disagree with the idea of forcing anyone to serve in the military. That concept is really messed up . But if they are going to go it then it should be everyone, not just men.
TBF (and sorry for repeating this) I've often thought this would be the best way to (ahem) disarm the current pro-second amendment lobby. Register every able-bodied adult in the draft and state they've got to be familiar with (for arguments sake) the M9 and non-auto M14. The familiarity could be taught in schools and after that, provided there was no criminal misbehaviour or court-assessed risk to another, the person could then keep one (or both) at home, take them to the range, go hunting and whatnot.
You'd probably massively cut the number of deaths whilst also wiping out almost all of the gun industry and none of it would breach the 2A. You'd even keep the supposed benefits of an armed society that the NRA and its ilk go on about.
