?? Did you read that?
‘The United States has the fourth-highest poverty rate of 17.8%. Despite being the largest economy in the world, the U.S. also has a significant wealth inequality gap. The current poverty threshold in the United States is $25,700 for a family of four. This means that households of four with a pre-tax income under $25,700 are considered to be living in poverty. Some states are more impoverished than others, and their poverty is exacerbated by high unemployment rates and a lack of high-paying jobs.’

Hugely impressed that the Ukraine has a poverty rate of only 1.3% Why aren’t immigrants stampeding the Ukrainian border?

Still comparable with Italy still being worse and this data is from 2016-2019?

Yeah, because that dataset is enormous and it takes years to compile. That is the latest data. Does it not seem odd to you that in your source, the Ukraine and China have next to no poverty at all?

Also, comparing yourself favourably to Italy in terms of poverty rates (even though they are still better off) has echoes of when you compare yourselves favourably to Venezuela in gun crime statistics

Well yes of course it does but the data they report is likely about as reliable as that of North Korea.

That’s point isn’t the comparison to a single country. The point is saying poverty is a uniquely American problem when compared to other developed countries with different social service structures is false. We can and should do better. As should others.

I have visited a fair amount of ‘developing countries’ but I’ve never seen anything as hopeless as downtown LA, Tenderloin in SF, parts of Vegas about 30 mins walk from the strip, downtown Seattle etc etc.
Anecdotal evidence for sure and I don’t particularly like engaging in a which country is worst war as I’m pretty ashamed of being from the U.K at the moment.

Well, that was the report you pulled from the internet. I was quoting actual OECD statistics, and it kind of feels like youre only dismissing them now because you don't like what they say.

But tbf, our eyes can tell us everything we need to know. America clearly has a worse poverty problem than, say, any developed European country
