@BlueTX it is great to hear that you and your family are okay (minus the water) and have been spared the crisis that many Texas residents are encountering at the moment because of the collapse of the state's power system. Hopefully this chaotic situation makes some Texans rethink their support of Republicans in state government.A large portion of the state will not have temperatures consistently above freezing until the weekend. And while the the majority of the state is struggling, other pockets, most notably El Paso, are not having much issue with electricity and water. Why? They are not part of the Electric Reliability Council of TX - which maintains a grid solely for ise by the majority of the state. Unlike the East or West grid in the US, TX is incapable of receiving excess capacity from elsewhere.
Also, unlike elsewhere we have nimrods who pray at the altar of deregulation and live in abject fear of Federal Regs. Their sycophants are already all over news and social media blaming renewable energy sources (wind, solar) as well as the "Green New Deal" when, as the article states, the main problem has been fossil fuel and nuclear plants failing. Of course the GND hasn't come close to passing and the GOP has been in charge of every level of state government here for more than 3 decades. So, yeah, let's blame the young woman from Brooklyn for the failures of this state. Typical.
(As for us, we are OK. No water for now but electricity is good. We are on the same circuit as a hospital so not likely to be shut down. Hosting a few folks not as fortunate.)

It is an inherent problem with the republican party and in global politics in general, to be fair. Most politicians are so old that they don't plan beyond the end of the day, because there's a chance they won't wake up again.Mcconnell is more than shameless, he has been an endangerment to our democracy for years.

Mitch McConnell: People Are Calling Me a Shameless Hack Because I Am in Fact a Shameless Hack
The Senate minority leader doesn’t appreciate being called out for his bulls--t excuses to acquit Donald Trump.www.vanityfair.com

I totally agree for decades we have allowed grandparents to run our countries butIt is an inherent problem with the republican party and in global politics in general, to be fair. Most politicians are so old that they don't plan beyond the end of the day, because there's a chance they won't wake up again.
How can they be in those positions, when they won't be around to see the consequences of their actions?
There needs to be a move towards younger politicians who I believe are more aware that they will have to live with their actions.
I know this sound ageist, but considering when trump was in; the top 3 in line to run the self-proclaimed "most powerful democracy in the world" were all over 70. That doesn't lend itself to admitting past mistakes (climate change, gender equality, racism etc) and making difficult changes to rectify the problems.
Glad you are doing OK and are able to help some others.
We‘ve lost power multiple times in recent years here in California as Ted Cruz had fun pointing out but he seems to have taken the wrong lesson from it.
Hopefully Biden admin can do many “infrastructure weeks” as the whole US system needs upgrades.
