I agree, if we are to bring up strong women that can make a difference in the world then we need to have such conversations and also need to have strong role models such as AOC.

I have not been here long enough to have known until now but I'm so glad now I do. It is a PM group, I won't say much about it since it is our private women chat but it would be great you joining us.

Fully agree, the time for old white men running (and corrupting) the world for their own sexual and financial gains needs to be gone. Long way to to still but hopefully we are getting there, even if it is slower than i'd like. Hopefully your daughter is part of the generation that finally makes the shift.

Thats a good idea especially as there cant be that many of us. To be honest I usually only ever posted in the football thread. It was the terror of Trump/Boris that dragged me into the general/political threads the last 2 years. Ill wait to be added to the group

For one of the classes I teach, I had to tell my boss that I will be looking at white-supremacist/hate sites from my office computer (mostly the hate-site stormfront) as we use posts on those sites to see how mainstream biology and/or biology done by racist scientists gets filtered down to the "regular folk" who use it to justify their hate and racism. But yeah, I wonder what the IT folks were thinking...

I also had no idea you were a woman. Not that it makes a difference or anything, but it's mad that we've both been here about 10 years and I never copped it

Ha, I had no idea about the Proud Boys starting in Canada. I may have to do some research about them unless someone else here knows more about it and can share with us their history.

Was thinking of changing my profile name a while ago to make it more obvious but couldnt be bothered in the end. It is a bit mad that as you say you have conversations with people and never get onto it.

I wasn't doing research for work but at times when I'm in front of my work computer I search the web for personal research or read the news but given the current times i figured that maybe checking out white supremacists information wasn't a good idea. Thankfully if IT were to report me to my boss she knows me well enough to know there is nothing to be concerned about.

Didn't realize you were a professor. I'm not, I used to teach Spanish when I first began my college career but then switch to advising after noticing the lack of Latino advisers in higher education. I find it very fulfilling career. I love my job, well except for the pay.
