Going to be an interesting week. If Kavanaugh is not seated by October 1st, it will be the death of the congressional GOP as we know it. They must stand with him and confirm or their base will leave them for a new populist Trump party. This is clear.

Someone will get what they want, I'm just not sure who that will be. Thunderdome has arrived.

“Solzhenitsyn wrote that in the Soviet Union, trials were never to be treated as a matter of the guilt or innocence of the accused, but of furthering the class struggle.”

If Amy Comey Barrett was on the Supreme Court instead of Kavanaugh wouldn’t that overall make the evangelical base happier even if they were displeased by the process - losing the battle but winning the war?

It's no longer about the nominee. It's about the process.

They would rather vote and lose and have this to use in November elections than withdraw the nomination for Barrett. The Senate will vote on Kavanaugh and he will be approved or rejected. From there, we will move on. You wouldn't believe the effect of the second wave of accusations on the base. This is Bork * Anita Hill to the third power. It represents every single thing they hate most about the Media/Party nexus. Things are indelibly defined now.

We ain;t seen nothing yet.

Avenatti getting involved is likely to inflame that reaction further. Although tbf I did see a similar reaction when Gloria Allred represented the 4th accuser in the Roy Moore allegations but eventually a lot of conservatives decided he was too toxic - but they probably didn’t like Roy Moore in the first place much compared to Kavanaugh.

Am still surprised that McConnell's warning that Kav would be the hardest of the three shortlisted to get confirmed wasn’t heeded in the first place.

Avenatti's running for president. Is he the future of the party?

That just seems crazy.

I think Kavanaugh might just have lost one of his 65 signatures

Renate is one of the women who signed a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee saying that Kavanaugh "treated women with respect." But that was before she learned about the yearbook messages. (3/5)
Kavanaugh's lawyer tells us that the "Renate" mention on his yearbook page was referring to him and Renate having "attended one high school event together and shared a brief kiss good night following that event." (4/5)
Renate tells us that she never kissed Kavanaugh. “I think Brett must have me confused with someone else," she says. (5/5)

Vault this. If we hear from Ford, here's the scenario.

"This whole thing really is predictable If I had to guess, here’s what I think will happen on Thursday.

Kavanaugh will show up and Ford won’t. The Democrats, feeling charitable, will offer to let Kavanaugh testify and get his side of the story told so he can clear his name. Both sides will grill him and the Democrats will ask him a series of weirdly specific questions.

Once he is done, Christine Blasey Ford, her lawyers, and a bunch of progressive activists will storm the room and demand that Ford now be heard. Democrats will demand she be heard. The Republicans will cave.

She’ll then give testimony designed to cast doubt on Kavanaugh based on the weirdly specific questions the Democrats asked."

Is this your speculation or did you find it somewhere?

ha, that'll never happen.
If we hear from Ford, she'll go first, then Harris will tear strips off Kavanaugh. It'll still be he said/she said but it will show that he's not beyond reproach. This will give moderate Dems in red states all they need to vote him down as well as tipping Collins and Murkowski. (I hope)
