Pretty sure San Diego is right behind Portland at the top of the beer table haha!

I swear I am not biased at all haha!
I spent a year down that way, real recently.

Well, not San Diego, which seemed great if I'm honest, but I was in Orange County. Wish I could have gotten out a bit more...had my SD Zoo annual pass for about 2 months before lockdown.

It was...not ideal. I didn't get to explore local as much as I'd have liked to, for...well COVID reasons mostly, but I have to say, pound for pound, just grocery store shopping local craft, NC beats SoCal for my experience....but...yeah...it wasn't the best experience?

It also beats Seattle (which I have a massive bias towards, and is better in all other ways to me). So no shame. NC beer is genuinely red hot great, especially out in the Asheville area, but really the scene has absolutely blown up over the past 15 years throughout the entire state.

Can't speak to Vermont much...and honestly spend these days throwing back Rainier while waiting for 2021.

I was largely messing with you. San Diegan's get upset when they are told there is a hotter better craft city haha! Given the companies based here they feel top two is about right. Egos like that shower across the park haha!

I have read about Ashville and some other locations across the states being hot alright.

One thing I do want to add though is that getting many of the local craft in stores is quite difficult. There is a mafia like distribution issue in so cal. Where I live if I draw a 6 mile circle around my home there are 8 great small breweries but none are in the stores. Only the big three or four get consistent shelf space.

But yeah I was largely joking its not been great in a good number of years here. Some great breweries still just not as many of them and what they produce has been largely reduced.

Oh and just to stay on topic I blame politicians for the distribution issue they allow it to happen haha!

Yeah, that kind of thing was what I was completely blind to after the first few months, since I wasn't getting out to breweries (for fairly obvious POLITICAL reasons). Which may also be somewhat an issue up here.

In NC (in the Raleigh area) there are a lot of bottle shops, but there are also some fairly major grocery chains that have bought fully into the "Shop Local" + "Drink Beer" combo, one of the major chains actually has taps onsite to drink whilst you shop, almost all local beers...so that distribution element allows the smaller breweries to be visible to those of us that don't actually get out to tap houses much.

When I first moved to the PNW I was genuinely shocked that I felt like I left a better beer scene than I came to. But it feels like because the scene is so much more mature here, there is less dynamism. The same few breweries seem to dominate the shelves, mostly with the same offerings, including regular seasonals.

In NC that seemed to be less static.

And there’s BBQ

What kind of poverty “news” outlet is this? It looks like the kind of broadcast a middle school puts on for their morning announcements. Is this the next bastion of truth down the ladder for the MAGA cult when even OAN and Newsmax have to bail on them in a couple weeks? I could literally throw together a nicer set in my living room within the next 15 minutes with stuff I’ve got laying around the house.

Real BBQ is made with pigs.

Best bbq uses a vinegar based sauce. Eastern NC. Flavor comes from slow smoking the pig for hours.

All other bbq varieties are fine, I guess. I like food.
I like pig just fine. No need for sauce if the meat is done properly, tho.

Come on down and try. Hope they all last thru COVID but I could take you to 30 little joints within 1-1.5 hours of my house that would change your life.
