Austin, TX is the seat of liberalism in the state and is closing in on 1 million residents (70+% vote for Biden). There are 6 Congressional districts that reach into parts of the city. Guess how many are held by Democrats?

One.
That's bothersome. Our electoral system is not giving us equal representation.and strategic gerrymandering by legislators is favoring the party in power. At the moment there are more Republican.governors and state legislatures than those held by Democrats so we are truly screwed.

How did Asheville, a really cool little city, elect a white supremacist?

wait.. lemme guess.... gerrymandering?
Yes, gerrymandering by Republican state legislator that decided to redistrict Asheville when they noticed our district was voting for Democrats. So they made the decision to slice the city's district in half thus scattering our votes across two conservative districts ensuring that no matter how we vote Republicans are guaranteed to capture both seats of congress. It is really depressing. Thankfully people in Asheville are very involved with their local government and we have an excellent city council, and for the first time ever in the history of the city the council will be lead by women, leaders in the community that really want to make an impact for the good of the people they serve.

He seemed like a cool enough guy at the drum circle.
Lol, well that cool guy absolutely hates Asheville. Before the elections he claimed in an interview that Asheville was a city of druggies and crime, and that he wouldn't dare to bring his girlfriend to the city and expose her to such disgrace. So no drum circle for him. He dislikes this liberal city a lot. Election night after he found that he had won this was the "consolatory" tweet that he shared with the world

So it doesn't give me great comfort that he is the person representing our city Congress.

It has to be. In spite of it being a little more than an hour away from me, I’ve never really spent any time in Asheville. However, I remember my sister being offered a job there after graduating college but turning it down because she thought Asheville was “too hipster” for her. Very surprised to hear they’ve elected anything close to a white supremacist.
Asheville is not as hipster as we are attributed to be. The locals are very welcoming people, very involved in the community, the town is surrounded by gorgeous natural landscapes, you can find a great variety of restaurants, music venues, and if you like beer then there is plenty of breweries to choose from too. The majority of the city over 70% voted overwhelmingly for the Democrat our city is split between two conservative districts so we have no chance to elect anyone else :(

Hot take - best beer scene in the country.

Ok, maybe number 2 behind Portland.

I miss Asheville breweries, especially Catawba.

Asheville has become very well known for its breweries and Catawba is definitely a great one. I'm afraid that many of them have been financially devastated because of Covid so we will see how many will survive after all this is done.

Technically Vermont isn't really a scene. I mean look at Hill Farmstead. The damn thing is 3.5 hours from BURLINGTON ffs!

Almost certainly the best beer state imo.
Whenever I'm in VT I'm with my wife and she has little patience for 7 hour beer detours, so I've never been able to visit HF in its Northeast Kingdom remoteness. I'm not a very good drunkard.

Wow, what a heartwarming tale of the community coming together to make sure a murderer is back on the streets.

In a related story, a representative here in Tennessee introduced a bill today essentially designed to make it legal for store owners to kill looters even if they pose no imminent threat to their physical safety.
