I am afraid everyone is making too big a deal of the KY governor win in terms of what it means for future elections in Kentucky. Although obviously great, the rest of the election went GOP.
I think this is more of a crap GOP candidate.

* happy to wrong about this

I'd prefer you to be happy but I think you're right. This seems to have been a similar situation to the Alabama Senate race in 2016, when Roy Moore proved too egregiously poor a candidate even for that extra red state.

yea, but at least states like Kentucky and Alabama seem to be ruling out fringe extreme GOP politicians.
I would imagine, at the local level in these two states, the Democrats just don't have the grass roots support. GOP candidates, personally known to the electorate are always going to win.
I actually think Moscow Mitch might be taking a harder look over his shoulder and sitting a bit more uneasily today.

It's true Matt Bevin isn't as explicitly gross as Moore, but he's been an unusually unpopular incumbent in his own right so I think if Trump had any effect on that race, it was probably to get Bevin more votes than he would've otherwise. But I don't know and I do hope McConnell's been waking up at night screaming lately.

Everything he has done to change the Judiciary probably saves him

After reading a tiny bit more about it, it's actually much more worse than just winning the election. The GOP there did a BIG sweep of the state house/senate and can override a Governor veto with a simple majority in each house. So...that sucks..

Pretty sure I saw something saying that McConnell's approval rating in Kentucky is actually pretty similar to Bevin's...
