Drivers seem pretty key to me in a business that involved driving from point A to point B

Hilarious isn't it.

Thing is they truly believe that. Intelligent people who are clearly lying to themselves. When the company started they believe it was like a paper round as in back in the day day laborers and part time workers came as go as they pleased or where needed. They honestly believe that the fact the user driver signs up that the TOC is just that and not a labor contract. They missed the boat.

BUT as much as i agree with their practices there is a grey area here. It took smart people who signed up the ones that read the TOC to find out they could have a case. Uber messed up and were taken to task.

I once met several of the Uber executives (who i will not name for good reason) in a tech meeting. I was once at their offices.

It was an interesting set of meetings. A room full of money men and women not interested in workers rights

The thing that struck me while talking to some of them is that they always try to portray this people loving progressive company who cares. Which is mad considering they are the opposite and its clear as day. Like i said they simply lie to themselves and to you and expect you to sit there and believe them.

I do live in N.C., but I’m not in the 9th.

Voter suppression is one of many immoral, unethical and even illegal things N.C. GOP has done over the last 10 years or so.

What is it with right-wingers and their aversion to democracy?

I take an interest in US politics because whatever the GOP get away with in the US, the Tories will try it on us in the UK.

Mind you, the Gerrymandering that goes on in your country is on another level, as is the voter suppression. At least so far.

That cross-border scam is unbelievable.
I mean, your country was founded on "No taxation without representation."
Where is those people's representation?

It's probably because they are not seen as people. Just numbers on a voting roll.

I seem to remember reading that after a few days of finding no survivors the SAR dogs, many of which were trained to find the living, started to display signs of anxiety and depression, presumably due to only finding corpses, so their handlers/firefighters started to hide themselves within the rubble just so the dogs were able to find "survivors" and that would lift the dogs spirits enough to carry on searching. Heartbreaking.
