Surely they have to reopen this case, it stinks to high heaven.
But emails and letters show that Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie Villafaña wanted state prosecutors to tell the judge as little as possible, telling Epstein’s lawyers “I would prefer not to highlight for the judge’’ how many victims were involved — which at the time was almost three dozen girls, ages 13 to 17. Instead of being prosecuted for federal child sex trafficking crimes that could have sent him to prison for life, Epstein was inexplicably given federal immunity under an unusual agreement approved by then-Miami U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta.

As part of the arrangement, Epstein agreed to plead guilty to charges in state court. His victims were never told about the plea deal until well after Epstein was quietly sentenced, serving 13 months in a private wing of the county jail — along with liberal work release privileges and a private valet who drove him to his office every day.

A long but interesting article on the utterly shameful lack of accounting (and resistance to oversight) of the defense department budget.

They waste so much money each year, but somehow racist Trump and his Republican pseudo-patriots are going after Science/Health funding, Medicare, PBS, NEA, etc.

The amount the US spends on "defence" is insane.

No wonder there's no money left for proper healthcare. For reference, the US defence budget is roughly 5x what the UK spends on providing healthcare to the entire country.

Yeah, really really gross, and a fault of numerous administrations giving them essentially carte blanche for decades based on all sorts of idiotic policies (e.g., Domino theory, etc.).

Yes because people living in abject poverty in rural West Virginia wouldn't benefit from universal health care or free college.
There was a video on YouTube that I'll try to find later in rural Kentucky where the population was almost exclusively insured by Obamacare and vote 80% for Trump or something because ??? One guy said "I didn't think they were serious about taking it away." Madness.

West Virginia is probably a bad example for a cast of ridiculous characters supporting the green new deal.

Regardless, I'd benefit from "free" healthcare or college, at least if I ignored the costs. But while pandering and wealth redistribution have their political value, that appeal clearly isn't universal (or else we wouldn't be having this discussion).
