lol, so hope my local CA library adds a “Sodom and Gomorrah, exploring the historical cities of the Jordan River plain” to its upcoming calendar of events, certainly might help loosen up those attending the “Peninsula writers bloc” session.

I never knew we had a city called "downtown California" as he refers too haha!!

Who made him an expert on the employment and homelessness issues in California anyway. Maybe work is tight and he's homeless himself. Sure sounds like he is taking something

As @Bryan noted in the Donald Trump thread....

Paul Ryan apparently out, not running for re-election per CNN, first reported on Axios.

Washington (CNN)House Speaker Paul Ryan has told confidantes he is not seeking re-election and will soon announce his decision, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter told CNN Wednesday.

He is expected to address his decision in a closed-door GOP conference meeting Wednesday morning, the sources said.
A source familiar told CNN that Ryan called House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy about his retirement before the news broke.
Ryan, a Wisconsin Republican, has been in Congress since 1999 and became House speaker in 2015.

Some of Ryan's close friends previously told CNN that he might leave office after the 2018 midterms. Ryan said in a January interview with CBS News that re-election was a decision he and his wife were planning to make together in late spring, and in March he denied a rumor that he wouldn't seek re-election.
The news of Ryan's retirement was first reported by Axios.

I'm thinking he'll generate income in the future the following ways:
- a book, probably released early 2019, titled "The Way Forward" or something similarly idiotic
- Join a conservative "think" tank, holding seminars about his hero, Ayn Rand (most American teenagers grow out of that infatuation)
- Serve as a valued director on several corporate boards of directors, I'm guessing an airline, an insurance company and a healthcare company
- and start collecting his Congressional Pension in 2 years.

The future's so bright, he's gotta wear shades....

Ryan showing his usual amount of backbone I see?

Contemptible little weasel that he is

Too much sweet, sweet, K Street money on his horizon. He wants to be President. Never forget that.

The GOP institutional party has decided to unilaterally concede the House to concentrate on holding the Senate. That'll lock us up for a couple of years, which is probably the best possible scenario at present. The degree to which Trump is at odds with his own party is a factor in this.

That can happen when you gut the party and wear it like a skin suit.

I am thinking that the House Democrats may need Nancy Pelosi to step aside as Minority Leader soon, before the mid-term campaigns heat up. Though who would be a good replacement, I'm not sure.
