Gana Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin

What disciplinary record is that Dave - the one which shows that in the past 6 seasons he has recieved a mammoth total of one red card (for 2 yellows), or the one which has seen him never recieve 10 bookings across all competitions over the last 6 seasons?

133 games in the premier league, 1 red card, 26 yellow cards.

111 games, 1 red card, 21 yellows (for Matic)
111 games, 2 red cards, 34 yellow cards, (Wanyama)
120 games for us, 2 red cards, 36 yellow cards (Barry)

So please explain if you can, how does he have a bad diciplinary record which proves your point, or are you just making stuff up in the hope people don't actually bother checking what your saying?

102 games, 19 yellow cards, 1 red card (McCarthy for us) btw
You're comparing apples and pears. Look at his record playing further back, that's the key. When Van Gaal played him in a more orthodox defensive cm role he was giving away fouls left right and centre. He played 29 tines for Van Gaal in the PL in his first season there and conceded 52 fouls - the 8th worst offender in the country...and that was for a team like United who refs dont punish too much!

He's not disciplined enough to stay on his feet and screen a defence further back. Comfort yourself with your crude fact haul if you wish, but Schneiderlin is not someone who can do that job further back without getting us into trouble.

The utter hypocrisy of this when you were perfectly happy with walking yellow card Barry arriving a second too late for everything. Giving away pens in key cup games, key free kicks in derbies given away, multiple suspensions. Yet now you come out and knock Schneiderlin lol. Embrace the new order, must be horrible seeing Koeman dismantle el fraudos crab axis so quickly.

I was happy with that was I? Then you;ll have the evidence to back that up....

You're deification of a manager who played the same midfield partnership almost every single game shows your implicit approval of his decisions. As if I'm going to go through the vaults for one of your posts, like looking for a needle in a haystack.

It's completely sound analysis. If you think he's a player that is suited to a defensive midfield role then that is your lookout. Look at his game. Look where he is on the pitch and look at what he contributes. He intercepts and tackles well up the pitch. I'd say those defensive duties are carried out typically in the centre circle. If opponents can escape Schneiderlin at that point and get forward in numbers we are in trouble with Gueye to beat and then they're bearing down on our back four.

I accept that's a midfield gamble that Koeman makes. My point is that we WILL be caught out by it when playing teams with managers and players capable of exploiting that. Against such teams I'd go with Gueye and McCarthy.
Sorry mate. He's slotted in beautifully. I guess my real issue is it's you saying it, after 4 or 5 games you still posting about him with a hint of negativity or a hint of what he may NOT do or be able do.

You've been clear in your sentiment n this deal from its outset and your stubbornness is continuing.

On the other hand.

After two clean sheets V WBA and Cardiff Martinez had proven all the doubters wrong according to you. Yet Schneiderlin after, as I say 4 or 5 impressive displays still should be treated with caution until he plays top teams like Cardiff or WBA??

It'd be a mistake to think of Schneiderlin as a defensive midfielder. Positionally I dont get that description. He's not a reliable screen for a back four because he goes to ground way too much and could put us in trouble payed that far back - and his disciplinary record underlines it. He's got the aggression of a CM but with a box to box game and the passing ability of someone who plays further up the pitch. I think that's why he couldn't nail down a place at United. Mourinho realised he was not a specialist: he had Carrick to screen the back four and control the tempo of the game further back and Pogba does the attacking and passing from midfield - Schneiderlin fell between two stools.

We have two out and out defensive midfielders at the club in Gueye and McCarthy, and thats why the latter has to be retained with Barry nearing retirement.

Schneiderlin has done well so far. It'll be interesting to see how he performs against top class opposition next week though. To date he's faced trash apart from a 20 minute run out against City when the game was over.

was waiting for the negative.

Think for the first 15 minutes or so on Saturday mate they where very much on top of each other, then i think the penny dropped for Gueye that he doesn't have to cover for Schneiderlin (the way he does have to for Barry) and that he can push further upfield and really disrupt them before they get started

Spurs will be one hell of a midfield battle like, but fancy ours to come out on top of that
Gueye was having a good season anyway, Ross had turned a corner and davies looked a breath of fresh air, but the way Morgan has improved them all by knitting it together and having the ability to play the right role for whatever team the gaffer selects, he's some player that boy

Really good stats those dave.

Problem is he started 11 of 30 of those games in central midifled not as a defensive midfielder, the game he saw red in - he was actually playing central mid against chelsea not as a defensive midfielder, he also recieved 5 bookings all season - which hardly describes this player with a poor disciplinary record does it.

BTW, if he was so poor in that role - then how come United record when he played was massively better in terms of results and in terms of goals conceded than when he wasnt playing?

As for facts - he played 26 times in the premier league in the first season under LVG mate, not 29 - perhaps your confusing league cup games and adding them to league games (they are different competitions), care to list the other 7 'worst offenders at giving fouls away that season Dave? - i have a sneaky feeling you won't provide those names though as they may actually contain some very good defensive midfielders - and perhaps one Gareth Barry on that list as well

Aye as they play together more can only see them getting better and better together as well,

Both very mobile, both very good technically, both very good work rates, throw in Tom Davies and a re-invented dynamic Ross Barkley and it all looks very rosy!

Will be interesting to see what happens if Koeman moves back to a three at the back. Who do you drop from that midfield? Unless Barkley takes Lookman's spot behind Lukaku and Davies makes the 3 with Gana and Morgs

Guess it will depend who we are playing.

Let's not rule out him playing McCArthy in that midfield 3 at times as well if he is trying to stifle tougher opposition.
