I hope not. If they chop out enough original plot to make the AFFC and ADWD fit into ten episodes, then IMHO they are making a mistake. I would hope that they have made this season AFFC and next season is ADWD, giving GRRM enough time to get TWOW finished. However, some of the rumours flying around about entire plot lines being dropped for the tv show makes me worry.
 
Are they not splitting the seasons as well? Like with the Harry Potter movies. That'll give him a couple more years to finish although god knows he's taking his sweet time. Gonna have to read them all over again before he gets the last one out.

I havent read any of the books but Ive heard that essentially books 3-5 are all occuring at roughly the same time, its just for different characters?

Eventually the TV show will be generated by screenwriters rather than based on the book - where does the author go from there? What if they release the next book in the series and fans massively prefer the direction the book has taken? Will they refilm the TV series? Chaos.

The author is closely involved in the making of the TV show. Not only is he consulted in most major deviations from the plot, the two chief producers of the show are the only two people on the planet (according to Martin) who he's told of his plans for the entire series of books.

He's told them the plot arcs and end points for all the major characters, in case he dies before completing the novels. Martin is well aware I think that many more people will encounter and enjoy his work through the TV series over the years than will probably read his books.

That pretty much... I don't think he'll ever finish the books off. The tv series will finish his tale..

At least 3 and 4 are set during the same time. It's just one is set from the viewpoint of one group of characters in one and then another group of characters in the next.
 
sorry to say, if nobody has, but the books are so much better, although i do love the TV show too, and they have hit the nail with costing but the books are so much better. The finial book is still not yet been released, but the author has told the TV show how the books end just in case he dies LOL

First 3 are, AFFC and ADWD were absolute aids to read apart from the 2 storylines that they've dropped from the show.

to be honest they are all great. But the only thing i don't understand, is where has this new Targaryen kids come from. He's supposed to be what 10-12, yet Danny was only born while escaping, and she's what 15-16 at the time of A Dance with Dragons and she was the last born Targaryen, no others escaped apart from her bother, unless he got some lady up the duff, but then why is the new Targaryen boy with Targaryen solders?? . I'm re-reading them so i'll see if i have missed something, coz doesn't seem correct in the time line.

He was alive during the rebellion; he's not 10-12 he's like 20. Rhaegar and Elia's kid. He didn't actually get his head smashed in, they swapped him just before/
