HBO told the writers there were 13 episodes left. At $10,000,000 a pop. What do these people want that are complaining about the speed the story is going, the speed people get from A to B etc?
Did you want them to say, sorry, we cant finish the story in that short amount of time, we are not doing it unless you make it three more full season (30 episodes) with lots of 1 hour episodes with people traveling from A to B?
Or, did people want them to continue at the slower pace and be unable to finish the story in time and tying up lose ends?

It's gone so far downhill ever since those two clowns ran out of souce material.
The quality has certainly been effected, however they do have the overarching story from GRRM. That being said, it is still excellent TV despite the weakening of the writing and better than most guff out there.

I don't believe for one second HBO want to have GoT finish in eight episodes' time. It's one of the best-selling tv shows in history, which means it makes a ton of money. I think Dave and Dan are out of ideas, and have been since the end of season 5. THAT'S why it's ending.
