how far is this fleet of ships from dragonstone? could the dragons not have helped?
Their fighting skills are no match for Euron's plot armour. That was just bizarre, I thought those 'sand snakes' were supposed to be vicious assassins? 2 downed by Euron In seconds and the third captured... what was the point of them?
"Foraging" new ground? Are they out picking mushrooms in the woods? I think you mean "breaking new ground".
It's pretty simple mate - the story, the character arcs, the plot development: all were better in the earlier seasons, when they were mostly using GRRM's source material. When they started cutting chunks out and re-writing stuff it lost some quality. They deliberately left stuff out and went too fast in order to get ahead of the books, and now they are struggling to write as well as GRRM does. In hindsight they should have gone to twelve, or even fourteen episodes a season after season three, used the extra screen time to go more in depth using the source material and NOT raced ahead.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the show greatly. Some individual episodes have been excellent, and there are individual scenes in almost every episode that have been done sumptuously. Some of the character arcs have been brilliant... but the books are just better in terms of consistency, complexity and depth.

Not all their own innovations were poor, I'm a fan of keeping beric dondarrion over lady stoneheart, the decision to give the hound and arya a proper little partnership was inspired, but of course there's been poor decisions, Stannis was handled poorly, and they are sycophantic towards their favourites, when the source material is your own that's okay, but I think you have a duty to somebody else's creation, removing all tyrion's complexities was daft in attempt to keep the character popular, Dinklage could of handled it I'm sure. At this point I really think they need a shock death of either Jon snow, dragonlady or Tyrion, I'd prefer the dragon lady, as it is starting to feel a tad predictable now, in that they've aligned the story towards who they want to winNope. I mean foraging. No denying there has been a step down in quality since they left the books behind. Picking mushrooms in the woods seems to be an apt analogy for what they are doing.
While I would have loved a completely faithful adaption, I don't think overall it would have been a good idea. Look at what Peter Jackson did with the Hobbit.......what would have been a 90 minute movie if they stuck to the book, he fleshed it out into an almost 9 hour marathon taking in all the extended world, lore and books from the side. Lots of people loved it, but it also was not as well received as the LOTR trilogy.
Euron Greyjoy though?
Enjoyed that![]()
Looks hideously out of her depth right nowAgreed. I think the actor playing him is having fun, which shows. Emilia Clarke, on the other hand, is still a bit terrible.

Which is a shame as they cast him wonderfully with Stephen Dillane, without doubt one of the most compelling and complex characters in the book, and they swept over (understandably given the time frame) an awful lot of his achievements and good deedsNot a book-reader myself (not yet, at least), but you're spot on about the showmakers playing favourites. It always felt forced when they had a Stannis scene in the show, like they weren't arsed about it, but somehow had to put him in. You can tell after 2 episodes who their favourite characters are.
