Ya, that's the same interview he does where he dropped a massive spoiler as well. He's got a big role in another book adaptation I'm looking forward to, American Gods.
there was rumours of a deadwood movie to complete the series, in a way that would be great, but they are 10 years older now, and i think the opportunity to complete a superb series has been missed, he's a great addition though, shame its just one episode as the current cast really needs an injection of gravitas

I agree that it might be too late for the Deadwood movie, though I love him and his peaches in that.

I think it is going to be hard now for anyone to walk into that show and put in a memorable performance as a new character. There's too many to keep track of and too many open storylines for the average non-reader viewer to keep track of. What's annoyed me is that even with the downsizing going on to some of these storylines (Dorne, Sansa, etc.) they are not really maximizing the value of the freed up time. This might just be me being bitter about the premiere but when the two showrunners are coming out saying the next seasons might only be 7 or 8 episodes long it makes me think that they're in a rush to just get it done with now.

I think this point sticks out for me, I mentioned somewhere else that in the first 3/4 series, there were some great scenes that did little to advance the plot, but did huge amounts for character development, they have totally vanished from the writing, and any spare time was used for dialogue that seemed to be there to remind the viewer of what had previously happened, it's all gotten a little bit lazy for me

I hate to beat the dead horse continually but Dorne is really the greatest example of the point in action. Practically zero character development for Doran and the sand snakes(I'd give a fiver to a show watcher who knows their names and can tell them apart, most people don't care), but we had a bit of a fight and it kept Jaime busy for a season so we could watch Cersei go off the rails a bit.

They included Dorne and wrecked it while leaving out the Iron Islands stuff until this season. I don't get why they would include the slow-burn character development group of Dorne and not the balls to the wall action of the Iron Islander's and their plot.

They're doing things that just don't make sense for reasons I cannot see yet, like having Tyrion and Varys going for a lovely stroll through Mereen while guerilla insurgents are trying to overthrow the government and are randomly attacking everyone.

The characters just ARE now, they aren't growing or changing THINGS are just HAPPENING to them.

Remember when Stannis was gonna change everything.

Then the producers got that big lanky split arse to kill him.

:(

Remember when Ramsay Bolton only needed 20 good men to wreck Stannis Baratheon's army?
And then about a dozen of them got slaughtered by Deus Ex Machina Brienne and Podrick!

Yup - Tyrion's weak gag about Varys' lack of todger was like something that would have been shouted by a character credited as "Unfunny Drunken Lout #1" in earlier seasons.
And Sansa - The writing was seeing her develop under Littlefingers influence into a woman who knows the value of cunning and deceit and jumping from a high castle wall into the snow drifts. The S6 premiere saw her terrified of some cold water.

The 'Brotherhood without Brains' are really starting to show their worth !

"It is not a question of wanting. The throne is mine, as Robert's heir. That is law. After me, it must pass to my DAUGHTER" "It may be that we shall lose this battle," the king said grimly.

"In Braavos you may hear that I am dead. It may even be true. You shall find my sellswords nonetheless." The knight hesitated. "Your Grace, if you are dead — " " — you will avenge my death, and seat my DAUGHTER on the Iron Throne. Or die in the attempt."

Just seen these quotes from the book again. Yeah, but let's have Stannis burn his daughter alive.

I always thought it was a bit rich to claim law (and supposed order) when the throne was taken by force ~15 years prior. Basically, in a story like this, the throne is owned by who sits on it.

The Iron Islands plot being left out I can understand, at least two of them are just sea-based, more rapey versions of Bolton jnr and the more recent bit of the plot in the books doesn't really add anything either. TBH even the bits that did get filmed didn't serve any real purpose -I am amazed its been brought back this season.
