i think the showrunners are starting to show their limited ability to come up with stuff without the backing of the books, theyve always had the heavy spine of the books / GRRM but now they don't and they've had to stand on their own two feet, and they're failing for me.

Jon dying had no surprise for me, and it was never as dramatic as the Red Wedding or similar incidences in the book. I'm kind of looking forward to the new series because I haven't a clue what will happen.

Neither have the Brotherhood without Brains.

Tbf to Benioff and Weiss it was always gunner be a rough ride once the show caught up with fat man. I just didn't expect it to be this awful ! They've shown themselves up as a pair of bluff merchants though.

Fat man is too busy eating sewage to finish the book and I'm not sure he knows how to. He's expanded the Fire and ice story to the size of his expanding waistline and he hasn't a clue how to tie it all together .

As you said, the books were getting out of control. I had a suspicion it would tail off a good deal when it hit AFFC.

I'm just going to go ahead and say it, GRRM is a terrible writer. Creative, but terrible.

He spends ages building up great characters and then bins them off at the drop of a hat, killing them in crappiest, non-entertaining way. He leaves so many plot-holes, it's infuriating.

Just because something is shocking and completely unexpected doesn't necessarily make it clever or good. Plot-twists should leave readers/watchers desperate for more, not piss them off so much that they might seriously stop reading/watching. He has no idea how to close off a plot-line, he just thinks "I'll just kill him/her" so he doesn't have to write stuff for that character anymore.

It's awful, people need to get out of his arse.

The good thing about books and TV shows is that you can stop reading/watching if you don't like it.

GRRM is certainly no Patrick Rothfuss.

But HBO got Game of Thrones right for a solid 4 seasons. Even if 5 is disappointing, the series could have been so much worse.

This could be worse. After the Red Wedding things could only have gone downhill. That will be the shows highest point. That being said this show is better than almost all of TV right now.
