Game Of Thrones: Season 8

It will be interesting to see how the books play out (if we actually get to see them) and whether most of the scenes in this season did happen in the books. I reckon the general idea will be similar, but you won't get the over exaggerated Hollywood manipulation of scenes in the books as he will spend time writing it properly.

Will be interesting to see if Arya kills the Night King.

I'm still struggling to understand why they made such a big deal out of the Jon Snow/Aegon Targaryen theme at the end of the last season, only for it to fizzle out in season 8. And many thing like that seemed to happen.

The one person who wins in this scenario however is GRRM. Those next two books are going to break all kinds of sales records.

They really won't, you know.

The truth is that GRRM is an extremely lazy writer who has torpedoed his own potential success through his writing nothing for years and letting the TV series overtake his books

If he had kept ahead, then people would have been really keen to get them before the TV adaptation. But as it is, the TV show has become the new canon, effectively, and anything he does now will seem very much like 'after the Lord Mayor's Show'.

Fact is, people on forums like this, dissecting things and outraged about character arcs etc make up 5% at best of the viewing figures. The rest simply watch it, enjoy it (or not) and move on. As far as they are concerned they know how it ended, and there's no way they will have any interest in reading hundreds of pages to find out an alternative. Like it or not, the show has been such a phenomenon that this will ALWAYS be seen as the 'real' ending to the vast majority of people.

I think that if he ever decides to write the remaining books, which I doubt, there will be tumbleweed in his future rather than sales records

I found a similar problem with the books that a lot of people seem to have with the TV series, that the quality started to fall away in the last two - A Feast For Crows and A Dance With Dragons, with A Feast For Crows being particularly disappointing. There became too many story lines for me, some of which I didn't find stimulating. I found myself almost skimming over some of them to get to one of that I found interesting - these were mainly those involving the original characters. If he ever does get around to finishing them I think he's got a job on his hands keeping the whole thing together.

He needs to rethink how to steer books out of s8 events.

I would think he'll take note of all the criticism from S8 and do things differently. It would make no sense for the books to follow completely the path of the TV series, although I would guess that he's known how most of the plot lines will finish from early on. Maybe part of the delay with the books is because he's had to make changes to address this. Not sure if you have read the books, but some of the storylines from the TV series can't develop the way they did as the books have already started them in a different way.

I haven't read the books but I found that there were far too many storylines in the tv show maybe series 4-6.

They actually cut quite a few storylines and characters from the books for the TV show which is part of the reason the books became so long and sprawling. They are still very good, though.

So GRM saying the next book will be out next year and some parts of the series will same the same others different. Will also continue the narrative of the characters in the books not in the series.
