=Wimbledon result.webp

Wimbledon made an impressive start to the League One season and were second in the table five points off leaders Preston. Euan Henderson was back in for Fylde and Ferguson went with Josh Maja up front with Tyrone O'Neill unable to find the net this season. Five minutes in and Bytheway was running at the Wimbledon backline and all they could do was back off, he played it wide to Jones on the left who took a look up and crossed with his left foot into the feet of Maja who put it past the keeper! A good start for Fylde but they couldn't hold it and on 22 minutes Ross Rimmer received the ball from the free-kick on the edge of the box and wasn't closed down, he hit a low drive into the bottom corner. Wimbledon sparked into life after the equaliser but Fylde defended well although they made hard work of it at times. Josh Maja took the ball in the Wimbledon half and got it wide for Henderson, he crossed for Bytheway in the box and his header was saved by the keeper, the ball came back to Bytheway and his shot was blocked. Fylde kept coming forward and were buoyed by the fans, Bytheway rose above the defence from Henderson's cross and the keeper saved well. A minute later Josh Ferguson took a pop from outside the box and it was inches wide of the post. Josh Ferguson took the ball nicely away from his marker from the throw-in deep in the opposition half, he turned and crossed for Henderson who buried the header in stoppage time of the first half! With less than 20 minutes to go it had been mostly Fylde but Wimbledon got the ball into the area and Alan O'Neill committed a foul to concede a penalty. Bertie confidently sent Hadler the wrong way and levelled for Wimbledon. With three minutes to go, Allcock toom the corner and found Geoff Pitman who ran free of Daniel Embid and put Wimbledon 3-2 up! Wimbledon took their chances and fought back to win the match when it seemed Fylde were just coasting at 2-1 and thought the game was won.

Crewe Alexandra vs AFC Fylde

=Crewe result.webp

The tenth game of the season and it was a trip to 19th placed Crewe Alexandra who survived relegation by a single point last season. Ryan Wilson took the ball at the halfway line and ran at speed past two opposing players, played it wide to Bytheway but the keeper tipped the shot wide. Wisdom took the corner and Feeney headed it across goal and Bytheway was there to nod it in on the goal line! Fylde were playing well and the ball from Wilson from the midfield was sublime to Henderson who caught it on his left foot but it sailed wide. Josh Maja was having a quiet game up front and was replaced by Sam Allaway on 62 minutes. With 19 minutes to go, Mark Morton beat his man to cross into the box for Henderson to knock it home at the far post, Fylde get the second goal to tie this match up. His 150th goal for AFC Fylde! Fylde thought it was job done but Crewe had other ideas and were caught napping at the back allowing Max Topliss to score to claw one back. With ten minutes to go, Crewe were hoping to equalise, Fylde were prone to conceding late goals and Ferguson was in his technical box screaming instructions to his players. Morton got forwar down the right once again and found Henderson with a precise cross for him to score his second! Fylde restored the two goal cushion! Fylde got the win and fought hard against a resilient Crewe team but they will need to up their levels against better opposition.

Oldham Athletic vs AFC Fylde

=Oldham result.webp

Duncan Ferguson stated his players are determined to put their recent displays behind them and play that scintillating football that got them promoted two seasons ago. Ferguson is known for giving his players a chance and Josh Maja started the match ahead of Tyrone O'Neill today. The first goal didn't take long and it was the home side who got it, Rathbone was too quick for Feeney and he got goal side and beat Foster with a right footed shot after 10 minutes. Oldham were pressing Fylde in their own half and the playing out from the back tactic was not allowing them any space. Josh Maja got onto the loose ball but was dispossessed, Tipple played it long and Rathbone shrugged off Alan O'Neill and curled it into the top corner to make it two. Five minutes to go to half-time, Morton took the ball outside the Oldham penalty area, chipped it in nicely for Ferguson to head at goal but the keeper got down to the post to save, it came back out to Ferguson and he put it in to get one back for The Coasters! Mick Wisdom was replaced at half-time by Daniel Embid after getting a finger injury. Cole Dasilva was causing mayhem down the Fylde right and he found Rathbone in the box to seal his hat-trick after 52 minutes. Josh Maja was taken off after another below average performance and Tyrone O'Neill took to the field. Euan Henderson played a nice pass to John Jones who tricked his way past Docherty and played into feet for Josh Ferguson to slot his second and pull a goal back for Fylde with 30 minutes to play. The match was certainly full of goals and it was Fylde's defensive frailties letting them down, Alex Gilbert was allowed too much space in the box and he buried it to make it 4-2. Alex Gilbert wrapped it up on 82 minutes when they came forward against the run of play and he got in behind and made it 5. What an embarrassing collapse from Fylde. Henderson played it wide to Oto'o and he raced forward down the right, played it into the feet of Tyrone O'Neill who scored to get his first of the season but too late for a comeback for Fylde. Usually if you score three goals at Boundary Park you come away with three points but Oldham destroyed the Fylde defence.

DF: This result makes me look at individuals and their desire, some players are getting older and I have to question their passion for this club. They can't just expect to turn up because we have won this league before, they need to battle each and every game. They are not even breaking a sweat.

Ferguson went with an attacking three of Pirone, Maja and O'Neill in the search for goals and a much needed three points in the home match against second bottom Bury. Jordan Wilson picked up a booking after 5 minutes which means he wil be suspended for the next match. The first goal came to the away side when Watson headed against the bar from the corner and it deflected in off Neil Foster going down as an own goal. Morton came down the right on 39 minutes, played it back to Wilson and he played it back to Morton to cross for Maja who controlled it well, turned and blasted it into the top corner! 1-1! Bury restored their lead not long into the second half, the Fylde marking was disappointing and Coll won the header to put his team back in front. With fifteen minutes to go, Fylde were looking better with the introduction of Henderson and Bytheway on the flanks. Jones played it to Wilson who headed towards goal and the ball looped over the keeper but he done well to backpeddle and keep it out, Wilson followed it up and the keeper took his legs, penalty to Fylde! Euan Henderson with the chance to get back in the game, he puts it into the back of the net! 2-2! Jones took the throw with seconds to go, Wisdom with the ball on the edge of the box he tried to get it in but it was blocked and the whislte was blown. Fylde salvage a point but it seems their hopes of winning the league are dwindling.

Burton Albion vs AFC Fylde
5th October 2030

=Burton result.webp

With Jordan Wilson serving a one match ban, Brett McGavin got his first start of the season alongside Mick Wisdom. Morgan Feeney was back in alongside Alan O'Neill. Burton were trying to frustrate Fylde's tempo and slow the game down but on 18 minutes the space opened up for Josh Ferguson and he drilled it low into the bottom left corner to get his 4th of the season after a nice pass from McGavin. Alan O'Neill ws having a good game in defence clearing the danger but Mark Morton was caught out at the far post and Johnson headed in Clarke's cross to make it 1-1. Brett McGavin was a breath of fresh air for Fylde and he set-up Euan Henderson when he took it on his right foot and buried it from outside the area to put Fylde back in front! It didn't last and Fylde were done yet again from the same position, Johnson getting in to slot past Foster. Too easy for Burton! Tyrone O'Neill was taken off for Josh Maja and within minutes of being on the pitch he got on the end of Henderson's through ball and blasted it into the top corner from close range! John Jones tried the cross into the box but it was blocked, he got the ball back and played it behind to Henderson who looked to cross but he ran forward and got on sight of goal and his curling shot towards the bottom corner was pushed away by the keeper. Fylde were working hard for the fourth goal keeping possession in the Burton half and trying to work the goal. Morgan Feeney put Foster under pressure when he played a high ball back to him, the keeper had to take it on the chest and remove the danger immediately. John Jones put in an excellent tackle and played it down the left to Maja, he held it up and back heeled it for Henderson to take it down the left, he played the cross into the box where Daniel Embid was arriving and he smashed it into the back of the net! That must seal it! It was a great result for Fylde and they deserve all three points today.

DF: We came out for the second half determined to do all we could to win. The introduction of Josh (Maja) really turned it for us, he worked hard and got on the scoresheet to put us back in front and we just went from there.

Declan Marshall was in the team after his injury along with Pirone on the left, Oto'o on the right, Okoroji and Stockbridge at full back and Sam Gibson started next to Morgan Feeney. It was a quiet first half, Notts County defended well and kept Fylde at bay. Tyrone O'Neill limped off after 35 minutes and was replaced by Sam Allaway. Notts County put Fylde under some late pressure in the first half, cracking the cross bar but Foster managed to pick up the loose ball. The match ended as a draw and went to a penalty shoot-out. Fylde were without Tyrone O'Neill who had suffered a gash leg earlier in the week against Notts County and Victor Oto'o was having more trouble with injuries when he pulled his ankle ligaments in training. Mansfield were getting men behind the ball and sitting deep, Bytheway played the ball forward into the path of Maja who took the shot first time but it was blocked by the defence. Alan O'Neill met Wisdom's corner on 27 minutes at the near post but he hit the side netting. Fylde came forward with Josh Ferguson who took it nicely from Wisdom, he played it into the box for Henderson who took the shot on his left and put it across the keeper into the net! His 8th goal of the season! The two teams were separated by the one goal at the interval but there was still work to do for Fylde to seal the three points. Fylde were getting corners but unable to make them count, Bytheway caught the ball on the edge of the box but he blazed his shot over the bar. John Jones won the free-kick for Fylde after being fouled on the left of the penalty area, he whipped it to the far post and Mick Wisdom got up to head in the second! Nice finish from the midfielder! Ten minutes to go and a clean sheet would be desirable but it wasn't to be when Foster fumbled Grant Swann's shot and he capitalised on the mistake to stab it over the line to pull it back for Mansfield. Wilson controlled the ball well on 85 minutes and passed it wide to Henderson, he played it over for the overlapping run of Jones but there was no options in the box, Jones found Wilson on the edge of the box who knocked it to Declan Marshall to try a right footed curling shot that beat the keeper to make it 3-1! In off the post! Euan Henderson gave the ball away needlessly on 90 minutes to Block who ran forward through the middle, his shot was blocked by Feeney and cleared by Alan O'Neill. The three points belong to Fylde today and the win puts them up the table into 5th.

Barry Sargent returned to Mill Farm in a Swindon shirt after an apparent fall out with Duncan Ferguson at the end of last season. It was Josh Maja leading the attack for The Coasters on this overcast afternoon. Robert McInnes got on the end of the ball punted forward by Euan Henderson and played the long ball into the box, Harvey Ward beat the offside and slotted past Foster to give the visitors the lead after 13 minutes. Fylde worked the ball forward, Mick Wisdon played it to Henderson who got it on the overlap to Jones, he crossed and Maja won the header but he hit the post, the keeper scrambled for it but it went in! 1-1! The dubious goals panel may put that down as an own goal. Vince Bytheway was putting the Swindon keeper under pressure but he was doing well to keep his efforts out, Bytheway was finding a lot of space on the right side but was unable to beat the keeper. The Fylde pressing game was paying off and Euan Henderson won the ball back when he intercepted a pass and played it to Wisdom, he found Maja and his shot was blocked by the defence, Jordan Wilson got it and lined it up on his right and put it into the back of the net from outside the box! What a finish from the midfielder! Fylde had stepped up their game since they conceded and were excellent in winning the ball back. Wisdom took the corner from the right, he aimed for Maja but Maja was held back by McInnes and the referee gave the penalty! Henderson took the penalty and converted! The keeper didn't even move! Declan Marshall and Tyrone O'Neill were on for the remaining 20 minutes in a game Fylde were largely dominating. Jordan Wilson was finding a lot of space on the edge of the box and his fine shot was turned behind by the keeper. It was a big win for Fylde after going a goal down and Barry Sargent didn't have a sniff on his return to Mill Farm.

DF: I feel like we are coming into our stride now and our performance levels have grown and we look good out there. The Swindon goal was a wake up call and we fought back to win the match.

Ferguson made a few changes for the midweek trip to Colchester. John Jones and Jordan Wilson were rested and Chima Okoroji and Brett McGavin came in. It was a good defensive display from Colchester in the first half with them blocking everything thrown at them. Okoroji played it to Henderson but it was intercepted, Okoroji won it back and played it inside to McGavin he lined up the shot in the blistering rain and it slid into the bottom corner! Fylde weathered some late pressure in the first half and on 45 minutes Bytheway played a sensational ball into the box, Henderson timed his run to perfection and beat the back line to tap home to make it 2-0! His tenth of the season! Martin Withers beat Okoroji with pace and was through on goal but he hit the bar, Foster done enough to put him off. Morton got to the ball and cleared the danger. The Fylde defence put in a great performance and kept a well earned clean sheet for Fylde.

Duncan Ferguson was up against his former club and it was that pivotal game in The Championship that saw his side relegated on the last day of last season. Mark Morton missed the match through a minor injury so Steve Stockbridge was in at right back. Bolton had the best chances in the first half and Neil Foster made some fantastic saves to keep the scores at 0-0. Wilson, Marshall and Tyrone O'Neill all came on in the second half to try and steal a victory. Fylde just couldn't do it today and Bolton will be more pleased to take a point at Mill Farm.
