Formations and Tactics under Martinez: The 3-5-2?

I tried putting together a 4-3-3 based on the current squad, it's a bit difficult.

Coleman-Jagielka-Distin-Baines
Fellaini-Gibson-Pienaar?
Mirallas-Anichebe-Jelavic

Some square pegs in round holes there (Pienaar, Jelavic) and not much depth to speak of at all, especially in the midfield. I mean, a 4-3-3 would be difficult for a player like Osman, and if Fellaini leaves that means we'd need at least 2 more midfielders. Perhaps Barkley gets one of the forward spots, though he's really a midfielder too.

I can kinda see why Martinez, at first glance, doesn't want to change much. It will take investment to play another way imo.

Pienaar would be very good in this formation IMO and I think Gibson would be asked to do similar stuff in every formation, so it wouldn't matter to him.

i feel the same, i think pienaar would relish the maloney role he would have much more space, as felliani wouldn't always be in his rode when he came into the middle

Probably belongs in this thread: Guillem Balague on Martinez.

http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2013/06/07/balague-challenge-suits-roberto

Balague, however, says that while there will be principles Martinez will try to instil in the Blues’ style of play, his tactics will be versatile.
He added: “What is a Spanish style of football? I don’t believe there is only one. In the same way, what is a British style of football? Is Arsenal a British style, or Manchester United? The definition is very blurred. “What Roberto does is exploit what he has to its maximum potential and he believes in possession – but not just for possession’s [sake]. He does it to be able to beat lines or to be defensive. He does it for a reason. He mixes it with pace and high-tempo ‘English’ football. It’s a nice a mixture. At Everton, it’s going to be an interesting move away from David Moyes, who was very clearly all about high intensity and playing with wingers.”

He says he is a good friend of Martinez, so maybe it time to take notice of his rumours.

4-3-3 guys it's the way to go.

The Wingers can drop slightly deeper with Osman/Barkley slightly more advanced than Gibbo and Fellaini (or the Felli replacement).

So think of it of a 4-3-3 that can become 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 when necessary.

For those who like their stats.

They had stats for him versus Moyes the other day, its laughable, 1 team finished 18th, the other 6th, I mean if you like stats and passing percentages, its up to you really.

Personally he should be judged on what he does in the Summer and beyond.
