Formations and Tactics under Martinez: The 3-5-2?

Ideal:

Howard

Coleman Jagielka Martins-Indi Baines

Fellaini Gibson

Mirallas Honda Mertens

Negredo
That would be financially crippling though, sadly.

Baines and Coleman are already the two most attacking full backs in the league playing in a back 4.

Most teams only play one up front so we'd have two spare centre backs - the position furthest from the oppositions goal.

You are effectively dropping Pienaar for Heitinga.

In summary - no.

Personally think Baines and Coleman are better at OVERLAPPING the winger, rather than basically being the only option we have out wide.
Martinez wont tinker with it too much, like ive said for weeks, ill put money on us playing 4-2-3-1.

I don't think he'll play 4-2-3-1, he appears to like the fluidity of a 4-3-3 (no designated attacking midfielder), so we'll probably play that.

4-3-3 would work superbly well with our existing players, Mirallas is made for the RHS of a front three, Pienaar could do it or maybe we can improve on him, I'm sure RM will stick with the overlapping full backs as per Mart's post above.

The game is fluid lads. Martinez will change it around in-game. This is his strength.

Only remember Moyes doing this when we had Donovan, swapping left and right and up front all in one game & it worked really well.

Arteta, Donovan, Pienaar and even Saha all interchanged

Could see Pienaar moved into the centre beside Gibson more often.

Moyes' tactical changes began and ended with swapping wingers...or switching Fellaini from CM to 20 yards up the pitch.

It's going to be interesting (to say the least) watching him operate at United under the glare of the world of football.

Yep I would only want to go to a back 3 if we got someone who could easily step into the midfield and play passes. I think the old heitinga could have done it but now I think we would need someone new in if we want to go that way

This as well. Its not like they don't get forward now and I don't think we got caught out to much on the counter. As long as we have Gibson and fellaini covering we are fine. I think 4231 is perfect for us.
