Everton 2017 - Where Are They Now?
Tim Howard - Played first team until 2013, I replaced him with a superb young 'keeper. He did remain on my bench for two more years, only making two league appearances in that time. In 2015, he moved on to Fiorentina on a free, where he had a horrible time, conceding eight in six games before never playing for them again. He was moved on after the season was over to an obscure Turkish side named Eskisehirspor. He is now 38 years old and enjoying his second season with the Turks as first choice 'keeper.
Jan Mucha - Never made a league appearance for me. In 2013, he left on a free to Bursaspor in Turkey. He has been a first team stalwart for them ever since. Now 34, and still first choice 'keeper for Slovakia.
Iain Turner - Left Everton at the end of the 2010/11 season on a free. Joined Rangers, where he initially made the first team, but eventually faded out and in four seasons at the Scottish giants played only seven games. He joined Hibernian on a free in 2015 and is a first team regular.
Tony Hibbert - Sold immediately, a sad necessity for me, to Stoke for £2.5m. Amazingly, he scored on his debut. He actually scored twice in four seasons for Stoke, before leaving on a free to St. Johnstone in 2014. Two seasons as a mainstay there, but he retired at the end of the 2016/17 season. He's now an unemployed coach, specialising in tactical training.
Seamus Coleman - Didn't break the first team ahead of Neville, he was moved on to Huddersfield for £1m (note: he's pretty terrible in FM, a rare miss for them.) He was a rock for Huddersfield - for six seasons he was the first name on the teamsheet. At the start of the 2017 season, Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest had seen enough to take the 29-year-old on for the fee of £2.9m.
Phil Neville - Nev played 37 games for Everton in 2010/11, but was moved on at the end of the year, joining West Ham for £500k. His experience played a large part in keeping West Ham in the Premier League over two seasons, before leaving for Ipswich on a free. Nev actually managed to stay at Portman Road for FOUR seasons, finally playing his last game as a 40 year old last season and retiring. He's now an unemployed manager.
Phil Jagielka - Remained a rock in the heart of the Everton defence until 2015. He joined Newcastle for £1.2m, and has been fairly decent. He is now rotting in the reserves in the final year of his contract aged 35. He made 35 appearances for England whilst at Everton, but not one whilst at Newcastle.
Joseph Yobo - Came back from loan for the 2011/12 season and did well, and played some part in the 2012/13 season too. Finally moved on for £2.9m to Bolton, where he played the rest of his days, retiring last season. He is now the Assistant Manager at Sunderland.
Shane Duffy - Is now a Derby County legend, captaining the side as they went up to the Premier League and stayed there ever since. Valued at £3.1m, and a regular for Ireland.
Leighton Baines - I let him go for £1.5m in 2016 to Sunderland, where he is bizarrely managed by Yobo! 48 caps for England.
Diniyar Bilyaletdinov - Sold to Almeria in 2012 for £4.5m, there ever since. Badly average.
Jack Rodwell - Still at Everton.
Marouane Fellaini - Was at Everton till last year. Deteriorated in form in his final season, which prompted a £10m sale to Zaragoza before his contract expired in 2018.
Leon Osman - This is quite bizarre... I sold him immediately to Burnley for £3m. He helped take them up to the Premier League and did well during his three years there. However, they released him in 2014 and, of all clubs, Bohemians picked him up. He did very well at Bohemians, yet was yet again inexplicably released after only a half season there. He then went on trial to Wycombe of League Two - a trial he failed. Eventually, Blue Square Premier side Southport picked up the 34 year old ex-Premier League player and he was there for two seasons, doing well... and was released again. Now aged 36, he's on the free transfer list and catching the attention of Basingstoke.
Mikel Arteta - Was very decent for two seasons for me, but then wanted a silly contract, so I offloaded him to Atletico Madrid for the 2012/13 season for £5.75m. He badly failed there, and after one season was loaned out to Olympiakos - where he failed too. He came back and was relegated to the Atletico B team. There he was brilliant, but that was the third tier of Spanish football. After one season, he was relegated to the Atletico C team, scored two in one game, then retired. He is now the Assistant Manager at Rayo Vallecano.
John Heitinga - Sold to Man City for £2.4m in 2014 after many years as a squad player. He failed at City over three seasons. In fact, he didn't make a single appearance in his final season. Was released and picked up by AZ Alkmaar for 2017/18.
Magaye Gueye - Struggle to hold down a place as I played a wingerless system early on. Still managed 37 appearances over two years in a Blue shirt, until he was sold on to Villarreal in 2012 for £7.5m. He has been there ever since, is now one of Europes top wingers, and is the first choice left winger for France.
Tim Cahill - In 2010/11, he scored 16 goals in 30 league games. In 2011/12, 2 in 22. Another poor season followed, and I regrettably sold him to Sampdoria for £2m. He was gash, and released in 2015 after three dreadful seasons in Italy. That said,I signed him up again! I only played him once in the 2015/16 season in the league, and he amazingly scored two goals! He retired and is now a Technical coach on the Everton backroom staff.
Jose Baxter - Chelsea bid £3.5m for him, I jumped at it. He then spent no less than five years on loan to various clubs, released, signed by Stoke in 2016, can't score in the Championship, still there in Stoke Reserves.
Yakubu - Great in 2010/11, then terrible for two years. Eventually sold to Chelsea for £2.9m, where he scored six in three years. Moved on to Genoa on a free, where he scored, again, six in three years. Retired, is now a scout for Norwich. Delia Smith gets a rodding off him on special occasions.
Victor Anichebe - Nottingham Forest on a free, then Coventry on loan, back to Forest, to Granada in Spain on loan, and he's been invariably terrible everywhere he's set foot.
Jermaine Beckford - Made three appearances for me, didn't score. Sold to Newcastle for £2m. Don't know why they bought him, as he didn't play, at all, for three years. Finally sold to Leeds for £350'000 in 2014. Has done fairly well, led them to the Premier League last season. 43 caps for Grenada.
Was badly bored. If you want any others let me know.
