Sure. But it shows how good a team we are that we finish high in the league. When we finish lower, we'll be less good and so less likely to win stuff.

It didn't happen to us the last two seasons we were in Europe, and it didn't happen to Liverpool this season. When they got knocked out of Europe by Zenit they were on exactly the same points total as they were on at the same point in 2011/12 with no European football.

I've already told you why it wouldn't.

Ignoring European competition Spurs' revenues are far higher than ours. That means they can pay higher wages and afford better players. Us getting into the Champions League and getting £20m will not do anything in the grand scheme of things.

So us increasing our revenues by 20%+ would achieve nothing?

Behave lad, the CL drives the modern game, it would drive all of our revenue streams forwards (go & read Deloittes view on Spurs CL season)

One season won't all of a sudden mean we've cracked it, but it would be a start & give us a chance of establishing ourselves as a CL club.

I have no idea why you're trying to argue against here, as it's obvious to a blind man, that their revenues rocketed the season they played in the CL & they've reduced their expenditure / wage bill in the 2 seasons since.

Aside from Keane, Modric, VDV and Krancjaar they were all on about £20 a week.

Also, by your logic (you either win a trophy or you don't), then getting knocked out of the Quarter Final of the Europa League is 'much the same' as not competing in it at all.

It is, yeah in the long term. It's fun and enjoyable, much as competing in a title race and finishing 2nd is fun and enjoyable but ultimately a failiure.

You can't compare two variables when one of the variables doesn't exist. You don't know how Liverpool would have done if they didn't have Europa League this season, just like we don't know how Everton would have done in the seasons when we were competing in the Europa League.

But I'm going to stick my neck out here, and say that an extra 6 or 7 games is going to hinder a small vulnerable squad like Everton's. And I don't think the rewards of the Europa League compensate enough for this, especially when the gap between us and the top 4 is so small.

Spurs ended playing 12 additional games in the EL this season, if someone can explain how this could possibly assist them in their PL campaign I'm all ears like.

It's about risk and reward.

The rewards of the Europa League are outweighed by the risk that the competition poses to your league form, imo.

Winning the trophy would be worth the risk, doing a Fulham and losing the final wouldn't be, not when we are 3 or 4 points off the top 4.

I don't think it'll 100% hinder us, tbh.

Probably it will but sometimes winning games breeds confidence and helps you win other games. We gained more points in the fiorentina season while still competing in lots of competitions than in any other before or since and we only really fell apart after we'd been kicked out of europe.

We finished on 61 points in 2009/10. Then in 2010/11 when we were out of Europe we finished on 54 points.

Again, i'm sure you'll have an excuse as to why that's not a fair comparison. But there we go.
