Fernando Torres vs Everton Away

I'm not that stupid

All I'm saying is that both players have scored goals at a good rate at this level of the game and both are under 30 - and one of them has over 100 caps for Spain and scored 22 goals in all competitions last year.

It's not exactly completely impossible to imagine one or both of them catching fire. We're not talking about Lee Trundle or Dave Nugent after all.

I'd be shocked if they get 30 league goals between them to be honest.

It's unlikely obviously but I wouldn't be shocked, especially with Lukaku signing who is superior in every way to Jelavic - and I'm a fan of Jelavic.

I'd be more surprised if Jozy Altidore manages five tbh.

The one v Blackburn was the one for me, they really dropped a bollock selling him, but the £50m they got for him was an even bigger bollock dropped when £35m of that went on Andy caroll

You counting own goals???

Pains me to say it but Liverpool played him exactly the right way he isn't an intricate build up player everything about him is power and pace Gerrard driving the ball for him to leg it and chase is exactly his game - chelsea don't play that way.

I'm not usually one for conspiracy theories, but the blood doping theory always intrigued me. His decline in form did coincide with the Spanish crackdown on blood doping doctors.

22 goals isn't too bad though really is it? Only problem for them (according to a Chelsea mate) is that they aren't important goals e.g. a third when 2 nil up anyway, also only 8 of them in the PL.

Some strikers just peak early in their career. Owen and Fowler were prime examples, and others have a stunning season or two, but never come close to those heights again - eg Adebayor, Beattie.

Beattie and AJ's goal record was padded out a lot by penaltys

Hate to say but our Red neighbours did just about the best piece of business in the history of the English top flight by flogging FT to those mugs.

Torres (and jelavic) are proof that that whole 'class is permanent' thing is a load of rubbish.

Are we really putting Jelavic (as well as Beattie and Adebeyor for that matter) in the same conversation as Torres.

He was a whole different level. Part of me still hopes he comes good again, if you appreciate football you couldn't not appreciate him in his prime. Sadly not guna happen though.

Torres and Yakubu would be a better comparison to me.

He also had - and this really, really, really pains me to say this - a beast of a song.
He was class. The one Liverpool player I always liked... he was brilliant.

Loved it when he f**ked them off. And still enjoyable to see his career go down the pan being an ex-kopite and all.
