Fernandes transfer details

From all I have read since my initial post, I see that there many flavors of "the truth" concerning the current Manny loan deal and in particular, his contract with Valencia.

I feel that we really need to sign him but who knows what combination of cash it is going to take to dislodge him from his club, his agent, his 3rd party ownership that he may or may not have, his new manager, etc. It's a value proposition with no clarity.

That being said, it is my opinion that we need to sort his true contract status, assess the cost benefit and make a purchase, no-purchase decision, and move on. IMO, continuing to borrow him is becoming too short-sighted. I like Manny and what he adds to the squad but I worry that another loan is just another stop-gap solution that fits an immediate need but would put us in the same position in 6-months to a year. I fear that we are just developing what we hope to be a "building block" players for another, larger club. We need to get on with building our own enhanced, future XI.

Once the club has seen enough of a player on loan (say 12 month max) I feel that we should continue borrowing the player only if he is perceived not to be part of the building block XI. Building blocks should be purchased for the future or we should move on.

Locking down calling card players will benefit the club by signaling that EFC is not content with being the best of the rest. Yes, I know we have do purchase wisely, watch the pennies, and I support that. But continued borrowing of key players sends the wrong signal to the kind of players in which the club should be interested… Hey, [player X] come play for us. Oh by the way, you know that incredible talent that will be playing next to you… don’t get too attached.

So my follow-up questions for understanding the Manny market better....
1. What current players can you think of that are of similar quality and skill to Manny? Raw but talented, flair players, an eye for the through ball, avg. defense, etc.
2. What are the estimated transfer and wage fees for these comparison players?

Good post TX and your questions at the end are one's I've been asking in a roundabout way for awhile now. In fact, I considered starting a thread dedicated to just that but decided not to.

I can't tell you too many players that might be similar to Manny but if I were guessing, very few of them would go for less than 8M.

Someone like a Nico Kranjcar at Portsmouth or Bentley at Blackburn would be similar in my mind.

Arshavin is probably just as good as fernandes if not better as he's comfortable on the wings and on both feet, Fernandes sometimes looks lost on the left.

Both would command around the same fee and wages, I would say that they're both as talented as each other.

i would have Riccardo Montolivo from Fiorentina, we wont get him though hes an Italian lad and Fiorentina have just got CL :(

as far as i know we were going to buy fernandes last summer for 12 million for 100% ownership.

valencia then stepped in and payed 12 million but for only 50 % ownership.

so his agents value him at 24 million.

we value him at 6-12 million.so i dont think we will be buying him.

global sports investment (or what ever there called) have inflated his price , are mugging football left right and center and ruining the players career.

its just goes to show how corrupt and incompetant fifa are to allow such a company to have anything to do with football.

its also a joke how the laws on ownership are different on the continent compared to england.

fifa + european clubs = back hander bastards.

If that's in fact the case then forget it and time to move on. Very few players on the planet worth that much and newsflash, Manny ain't one of them.

You're spot on though about 3rd party ownership. Time for FIFA to step in and shut that down asap.

Tevez and Mascherano are still 3rd party owned aren't they?

Why is it one rule for the top 4 and another for the rest. The English FA are the ones who need to say you know what the contintent don't give a [Poor language removed] about 3rd party agreements neither should we.

no i thnk mascherano is now owned by the [Poor language removed].

as for tevez im sure they have got round the rules by 'loaning' him for 2 years.
he isnt 'owned' as such by any club.
