Felli over Baines?

We played brilliantly today without Fellaini, as much as I love him he isn't bigger than the club and in a way I'm hoping for some crazy fee to be thrown at us.

Thank you, there we are, it's the one acknowledgement I'm looking for people to make: we won't miss Fellaini. He isnt integral to our play, and we even play better footbsll without him (I accept the last two might be a stretch too far for most).

If a 25 million pound bid came in for Fellaini towards the beginning of the transfer window (highly unlikely IMO) then I think we should sell and possibly get 3 or 4 good players in.

He is overhyped in the extreme, and we have a tendancy to hoof it when he plays. We will be more than fine without him, and there's just no way that one Marouane Fellaini is better than having 3 very good 10million pound players.
This nailed on

10 games ago I thought it'd be ridiculously hard to replace Fellaini. Now I'm actually coming around to the idea of getting 25-30million for him. We'd improve immensely with a proper midfield destroyer and a tricky second striker. We could get quality players in both positions for 10-15m each.

I just think Baines is more important to the way we play. Plus he's easily in the top 3 LB's in the world, in fact I believe he is the best.

Calm down, lad. You're forgetting Lahm.

This lot place Baines 8th:

To be considered best in the world a player has to show his worth at the highest level. At club level that's Champions League, and internationally that's the big tournaments.

Baines is brilliant! And we should keep him forever. But he's not the best leftback in the world. He's got work to do if he really wants to be.

We would have won today if Fellaini played and Gibson.

Corrected.

Both, along with Baines, are irreplaceable. We should sell others who aren't so vital. Problem is we won't raise much for our chaff.

It's that awful Catch-22 scenario. For us to gain that missing killer instinct, and that extra focus in defence, we need two huuuge signings. To afford them (and attract them), we need either to sell our two best players, or play regular Champions League. But to play regular Champions League we need to gain that missing killer instinct, and that extra focus in defence, so that we finish high enough in the league. But we won't finish that high if we lose our two best players.

:confused2:

To be fair. Our two killer instincts have been off form or injured. Mirallas and Jelavic. The sooner they're both up and running the better.

At the back Distin and Jagielka are good enough. It's just a shame about the injury to our right backs.
