FAVOURITISM

One of the reasons I was happy with Moyes leaving was that I thought it would see an end to his favourites. Osman, Neville etc.

Turns out Martinez is just as bad. I'm so, so disappointed in him for dropping Joel last night but not suprised based on his Barry fetish.
All managers are as bad. The quickest way to loose the dressing room is to start flip flopping about like a man that doesn't know his best team.

Robles has done nowhere near enough to be number 1 . I agree Howard has been crap for a while but 3 good performances does not make you the future.

Its hard to say what I would have done as I dont see Robles day in day out in training
Robles started his little run a zero and ended it a hero with the fans. All is good for Joel.

pretty confident Martinez does not have favourites. But I think there are echelons of talent/responsibility that he prioritises.

I would think the most critical component to Everton under Martinez is distribution. For me (and evidentially , Bobby) that makes Naismith the first name on our team sheet. Playing without Naisy would be like trying to run a highly tuned sportscar engine without any oil.

I suspect that protection of our back 4 is Martinez's next priority and Gazza Bazza is thus the second name on the team sheet.

The rest of the team slot around these two integral components.

So, it's certainly not favouritism. It's acknowledging particular talent that a particular manager prioritises. And judging from our renaissance of late, whereby we look like we can challenge for major honours this season, I do not think many people on this forum will argue with Martinez's modus operandi.

I can at least understand a lot of the Barry overuse given the injuries/form of possible alternatives.

No such explanation for Howard especially as he had only returned to training on Monday.

Maybe he dropped Robles to protect his confidence. Howard is a seasoned professional, if he conceded 4 at the bridge it wouldn't affect him. If that happened to Robles it could really shake him.
The again he could have had a blinder , and kept the 35 year old Howard for the season !?- Imo only big Nev was capable of playing at 35 as he was world class - TH has been an ok keeper not a world class keeper !

I don't count goalkeepers as footballers anyway. Just ball juggling balloon headed clowns to me, who stop balls flying past them. Every keeper I played with was a weirdo as well. Just saying like.

This season Howard has been poor. The Palace game was breathtaking in its awfulness.
The StevieG LFC freekick was also down to him.

I certainly blame him for the Chelsea goal. Punching the ball aimlessly is taking a chance unnecessarily. Either catch the ball and take the pressure off the defenders or stay on your line. There was an EFC defender jumping who might have won it.

Then the reaction on the line to the shot was not great. It seemed as though he was unsure as to what he had to do. Not for the first time either.

Robles was improving with each game and had convinced many that he was good enough to continue. Dropping him was unfair and bad for squad morale.
