people really do forget how good and dominant Schumacher was. Partly because of Hamiltons dominance and partly because of Schumachers comeback and their perceived memory that Rosberg beat him.

Actually when his car stayed healthy he was as much of a match for Rosberg as Hamilton was in the same car. My Brother in law reckons Merc engineers love schumacher and he is the reason behind their dominance.

The wet really does allow the all time greats to stand out.

Note article was from 2014. Hamilton's wet race record since this time has been unbelieveable.

I don't think anyone who watched Michael back in the day forgets how good he was. There are just question marks over some of his actions which taint his legacy.

It would have also have been good to have seen him in a title battle with Senna that we would have started to see later in 94 had it not been for the accident. Although that in truth would have been a little unfair as Michael was still relatively new to F1 and Senna was at his peak. 3/4 seasons later Schumacher would have been entering his peak as Senna declined so a lot to learn but it may have given us a more complete picture on his career.

Think that 4 year period from 94 - 97 could have been vastly different, but for that suspension arm. Convinced that at least 2 of those 4 Championships would have been Senna's, especially if had remained at Williams throughout.
Although the Ferrari chief was convinced he would have finished his career with them.

Senna's untimely death is one of the greatest "what if" questions, not to just in F1, but in sport in general.

Personally I think it's conceivable that Senna wouldn't have won any more titles - that Schumacher would still have easily won the 94 title as he would have had a 30pt lead after Imola, and not been thrown out of those 2 races which the FIA did only keep the championship interesting.

Would probably have won the 95 title as well imo, as he was pretty much an unstoppable force by that time and cakedwalked the 95 title with some absolute genius level driving.

After that it s all if and buts - does Senna go to Ferrari instead of Schumacher? etc etc, so not very easy to just say how it might have played out.

Since then we got a couple of great years where Alonso dethroned Schumacher, and now we have Hamilton/Verstappen which imo is one of the greatest changing of the guard battles we have ever seen. But yeah, if Senna had lived, ironically I don't think he would be so highly regarded as he is today simply because imo Schumacher would have beaten him and established himself as the dominant talent in F1 even with Senna still on the grid.

As you say its ifs and buts. My thinking with 94 was always if Hill could yake Schumacher all the way and but for a moment of impetuous madness, would have won, then Senna with all his skills could havw gone further.
95 id agree, but 96/97 Williams were so utterly dominant would Senna have walked away from that potential?

Red Bull lodges petition into a new investigation into Hamilton. Strong chance of floods at Hungary this weekend given all the crying.

I'd love it if the FIA treated it like the FA disciplinary board, deem it frivolous and suspend the whiners for 1 race.

Not the driver, the team.

i watched the 1998m hungary race on sky last night, i'd forgotten how brilliant that drive was from Schumacher. 3 stopping against a much quicker McLaren and pumping in qualy laps for over 20 laps. Amazing performance really.

I'd also forgotten that Schumacher wzs 10-10 against Rosberg in qualy the season he retired, at 43 or what ever he was.

Hamilton was 10-9 against Rosberg

Hamilton/Rosberg was 11-8 in 2013, but really could have been worse for Nico as Hamilton absolutely dominated for most of the season and then tailed off as Merc put everything into their 2014 car

2014 was the only season Nico edged the qualifying record, but it didn't matter much as Hamilton was generally able to overtake him whenever he had faster race pace
