Shout out to George Russell by the way. 1.5 TENTHS behind 4th place in that Williams.

Surely he’s getting that second Mercedes seat for 2022?

Why would he want to do that? He has been treated like crap by the team this season and is almost certainly not going to be in the seat next season.
Boss, I was being somewhat facetious.

When interviewed after the qualifying for qualifying (what a shambles not to get a pole award), he admitted he'd supported Lewis be disrupting the air.

It was clearly a team order, hower he didn't look particularly happy to be undertaking such an order.

It's a weird one, he's very quick around the track.

If he had bigger bollocks he'd be at a team dishing out orders for his benefit.

Hard to have too much sympathy.

For me, poles are like the goals for stat. Utterly pointless in the grand scheme of things. The only thing that matters is 'wins'

I couldn't care less how qualy ends up running, and I think it adds more uncertainty to the race with the lack of practice to trial out different configs.

The argument that qualifying record is significant because it's the only time we are seeing the cars and drivers pushed to their absolute limit, therefore it's a true indicator of ultimate pace. Granted, it may be more complicated than that as some cars are relatively better over a single lap than others, but it's the closest thing we have in the grand scheme of things.

There are some other stats that I do think are worthless.. fastest lap, laps led, so basically half of the 'grand chelem'

The way i look at it is that its basically replaced FP3 and i don't care what anyone says... a sprint race even at its dullest is better than a practice session.

I watched bits of the f2 sprint. What we all expected, only real changes at back end of grid. Doesn’t fill me with confidence for later.

That's the thing isn't it?

Why would Verstappen or whoever near the front go for a risky overtake if the consequence is they either gain a position or crash out and start at the back of the grid Sunday?

The risk/reward ratio is too low.

I agree. Horner tried to big it up then and basically said we will race for the first few laps and see what happens. I think the top 6 places are decided after lap 1 lol

If Merc were using their heads and Bottas was on board, then Bottas taking Verstappen out first corner "by accident" would be a good call.
