NASCAR currently doing a road race in the wet at Circuit of the Americas.

Very dangerous conditions with little to no visibility. The second video of the onboard is pretty scary stuff

Stream here if anyone is arsed, certainly better than the F1 race.

Anyone watch any of the old stuff available online? Got bored and watched a whole bunch of old wet weather races lately, Australia 89 and 91, and Gilles Villenueves insane two laps with the front wing meaning he couldn't see in his own GP in 81. (The same race Mansell went back out on slicks because they'd run out of rain tyres, slid off and then collected Alain Prost within half a lap). The races were so often dangerously crazy the cigarette branding doesn't seem entirely inappropriate. Keke Rosberg sucking back a ciggy on pit lane in apartheid South Africa makes you realize how far we've come -although arguably races in Azerbijian, Saudi Arabia, Russia and elsewhere at least give a reasonable counterpoint.

Yesterday however was a trudge and it's clear Mercedes has a real fight on it's hands this season. Verstappen is very very capable, and the occasion doesn't overawe him. I hope it isn't anytime soon but he's got to be a future world champion in waiting in my view. It's hard to fathom such a poor showing by a setup as experienced as Hamilton and Mercedes on a track as qualifying intensive as Monaco. It's really inexplicable.

Norris also confirming that he is on a similar trajectory. Absolutely awesome performance from him and quicky ending any real argument of Ricciardo as a potential world champion.
Bit harsh on Danny Ric that. He's not up to speed yet, but give him half a season and we should see a fairer comparison. Thrilled to see how well Lando is doing tho. Big fan of him and Russell, so if he can keep this level of performance up when Ricciardo finds his feet will be a good sign. Still think if you put Ricciardo in the Merc with Bottas he'd be WDC.

I was meant to be going home today from Baku but got asked to stay an extra week
The hotel they put us in on the way home is the Park Inn which a 100 meters from the pit lanes..

Wounded to say the least :(

Yeah, this is very worrying for Mercedes. A bad performance at Monaco can be considered an outlier, but 2 bad weekends in a row would suggest that they've taken a wrong turn with how they're developing the car at a crucial period where the momentum is against them.

Max must be licking his lips... the prospect of him winning the WDC is looming larger.

Toto basically confirming qualifying is going to be grim.

We have a strong race car, but we are struggling to get it for one lap. It is the same as we have seen in Monaco, we don't deliver in some sections, and it seems to continue in Baku.

There are only 90-degree corners here, so it was always clear that it would be difficult for us. You can clearly see in the lap times that something is fundamentally wrong. We are now trying to tune the car so that it works.

Probably qualifying will be one of the most difficult session I have ever seen for us. It reminds me of Singapore 2015.
