I'm not following 100% carefully but isn't it just the fact the soft had more to give still than the new hards?

Yeah, exactly the tyre warm up issue means there is no undercut at Monaco.

This should be evident given how they keep going round and round in qualifying instead of the usual single fast lap.

I mean, this isn't unknown. Historically rhe way to move up places in Monaco is to run an overcut as Hamilton himself did in both 2017 and 2018

Even Everton will be more entertaining now. Very clean Monaco GP, no safety cars or major incidents so overtaking only in pitstops. Mercedes tried an interesting one but their pace was just too bad so it was the wrong call in the end.
