Would a reverse grid encourage smaller teams to take the foot off during qualification to get a better position in the sprint? If they rate their chance of points in the sprint over the main race it could come into play.My stance remains the same, any race is always better than FP3. Just detach it from quali or even better do that AND reverse the grid based on the quali times (which are also used for the grid of the main race). Also increase the points so there are points for the top 10. It would increase the coverage the smaller teams got, make them more relevant and also give them a chance of points if everything goes perfect... on top of this it would be a good platform for drivers in the worst cars to show what they can do to under the spotlight.
Definitely like the idea of a handicap based separate sprint though. Maybe start awarding points for qualifying, points for sprint and then more points for the main race?
It'd be a very big step away from tradition and probably full of flaws I haven't considered (and will no doubt be put right on
) but it'd make the entire weekend count for something and throw a few cats in among the pigeons when you have a season where so many races such as Monaco become dull processions but survive based on the corporate money they generate.A Monaco sprint with a couple of Haas on the front row would be interesting...possibly a debacle but certainly not dull.
