Tbf if they want to form a new competition let them, at the detriment of their own clubs. They should be made to still have to fulfil all their other fixtures and schedules with the league, cups and Europe as well with only a 25 man squad (no loop holes), and the competition organisers not bending over backwards to accommodate the ESL fixtures in the calendar. See how soon they're complaining about fixture congestion, unreasonable travel, fatigue, injuries etc when they have to play a league game on a Sunday, Champs League on a Wednesday, ESL on Friday or whatever, and the FA Cup on a weekend.
Once the money men realise that there's no interest in the ESL due to empty stadiums and no mass media coverage, it'll soon get scrapped, by which point those teams would've sacrificed potential domestic trophies for a competition that no one will ever remember.

Part of the enjoyment with footy is travelling to teams who play in basic stadia from lower leagues or from smaller nations for the good day out, the trip to somewhere you'd never go to abroad. Playing these types of teams benefits them as well with the finances of hosting a bigger club. The ESL is an anti-pyramid idea. There is no drip down of finance to the other clubs it's a complete closed circle, it's the Brexit of the footy world! If this was around 20 odd years ago, Barry Town from the Welsh premier would never have got to play Real Madrid in a qualifier and benefitted from the cash injection. These types of fixtures is part of why we love football.

Also how long will the RS and Manure enjoy playing each other 4+ times a season, especially if one is dominant and spanks the other every game? Or if they constantly finish bottom of their group rather than challenging for domestic honours? Won't last long.
