Everton Youth Teams Thread

No 13 R Astley caught my eye, no not the one and only, I'm sure those jokes will follow though, but Ryan Astley. He's a Welsh u16 international who's been working way up the Welsh age grades , we had about 5 players of a similar age with Wales at one time, he's the only one who's name I've seen lately though. Must be still at school so another of our 15/16 year olds . He played in the Youdan 16s tournament for us last month , and may have been captain , very little info on him or u16s , which is fine , pointless getting excited at this age...............but Anthony Gordon looks exciting :)

..just seen the goals, Anthony Gordon is looking a little bit special and I wonder if he might step up a level and play with the U23s. Player of the tournament in that summer competition the youngsters won. Fraser Hornby as well looks a big powerful lad and worth keeping an eye on.

Interesting that Grant keeps going out on loan. I'd think he's at the point where he either starts making the bench for the 1st team or he moves on for regular first team football elsewhere. He's 22 now.

Astley is the captain of Wales at his age group.

They are the two worth watching from that age group. I want to do an extended post when I get a moment on Gordon but he looks a proper player him, a bit of a cross between Evans and Dowell.

I like the look of Collins as well. He looks a big lad for his age, comfortable on the ball. A bit like Foulds but a bit more advanced taking into account his age than Foulds was.

..I'm interested in what of Dowell do you see in Gordon? I certainly see similarities in Davies game, although I suspect Gordon is more effective at the top end of the pitch.

There was a central midfielder in that U18 tournament who had a fine range of passing, reminded me a bit of Lundstram.

May well have been Scully mate. Typical Everton player really, good on the ball, good passer, liked a tackle etc.

As for Gordon, he takes up clever positions in the way Dowell did, has good technique and a clever brain in the final third. Looks to have a bit more pace than Dowell, but not as clever as Dowell was. Both were very slight lads when they came into the under 18's though.
gets on the end of things a bit like Evans, the headed goal at the weekend he showed great movement.

Montage of Eden Hazard against our U23, but I enjoyed watching Liam Walsh going up against such a mercurial talent.

..I was thinking watching that game that the lads must have loved playing against him. I bet they were eulogising all the way home.

I notice the Chelsea commentators were very complimentary about Walsh. It was good that they knew the Everton players.

The commentators seemed both knowledgeable and weirdly ignorant at the same time about our team.
