Apologies if old news, but hadn't seen it: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spor...ews/changes-made-everton-academy-new-13471211

Changes made at Everton Academy with new appointments
Blues reorganising structure in wake of departures last season
Everton have confirmed a shake-up at Academy level.

The Blues parted company with Academy Director Peter Vint in March and promoted Joel Waldron to Head of Academy Operations.

Waldron’s job title as now changed and he begins the new season as Academy Manager.

Sean Lundon has been handed the role of Head of Academy Coaching.

The Blues had appointed Dave Addams to the job in March but left just over a week after taking up the position.

Under-23s boss David Unsworth has also added the role of Director of Coaching to his duties.

Waldron said: “The position of Academy Manager is to oversee and manage the different Academy functions: coaching and recruitment, sports science and medicine, education and welfare, operations and strategy.

Funny really, we scoured the globe and appointed the US Olympic sports director and then let him recruit the best possible candidate (in his mind) as the director of coaching. Then we sacked them both within a few weeks and replaced them with internal candidates.

I have no insider knowledge but I'd guess that the local coaches / scouts were probably annoyed at being overlooked for roles. As we mainly recruit locally it is no bad thing to keep the contacts and connection with all the schools/clubs.

I did slightly get put off Lundon when I saw him interviewed about youth development along with some Belgium coach (famous for his skill at developing players) and he was quite dismissive over all the things the Belgium had done (using different sports to develop skills such as vision) by just saying "we are here to teach football nothing else". However you obviously can't judge by one clip! Good luck to them, I reckon we've got a barren spell coming up (U16/U18) but then current U14/U15 years are looking really promising going off tournament wins.

Paul Tait seems to be the one regularly named with the u18s team sheets so presumably he's the "official" replacement for Kevin Sheedy, which makes sense as he's been around the 18s as coach for many years. I also noticed the name "Steven Schumacher" as one of our Academy Coaches , no photo or any official biography, so it may be a part time role as I'm not sure if he's still playing or not. I had high hopes for Schumacher a few years ago, though he never gets mentioned in those threads of youngsters who were good but never made it with us.

So Unsworth gets promotion to Director of Coaching while continuing with U23's.

He'll take over Koeman eventually him. I'm a Koeman fan but when he departs I'd be happy with Unsy.

I must admit to not fully understanding what " Director of Coaching" means so will take a stab . The Dave Adams/ Sean Lundon Head of Coaching role is obviously for the Academy , so I'm presuming Director of Coaching relates to the U23s , but he has always had responsibility for coaching as U23s manager , so a "promotion " to Director suggests additional responsibility with the Academy Head of Coaching reporting to him. I'll look out for further clarification.

Well it's the start of a new season mate, and I'm optimistic. I came across the Youdan Tournament last month where the u16s reached the final but where beaten on penalties by Seattle Sounders. Unfortunately there were no details of individual players but apparently they were a young side who played well. U14s were there too but didn't do so well.

While it would be hard to disagree that last year's u18s were poor, there are grounds for optimism. Three of them played for the U23s and look promising , Feeney, Beni, Evans. What we don't seem to get now is 1st year Scholars playing for the U23s, I think Antony Evans may have been the last one, and of this year's u18s only Alex Denny has appeared regularly in pre season U23s games, I'm not certain Pawel Zuk who got some minutes is going to step up. Of the rest , apart from the still injured Fraser Hornby , it is difficult to spot any other 2nd year Scholar likely to play U23s this season. So my optimism really is for the 16 year old 1st year Scholars and that we get at least three coming forward from this group, Adeoyin, Simms and Gordon appear to be setting the pace so far, but there are a few others who will hopefully show promise.

And as an aside, I see that Bobby Carroll was on the u18 subs bench last Saturday. I remember @Timak mentioning him last season. In summary , we got him from Leeds as an 11 year old, paid money for him and brought him and his family over . He got rave notices a few years ago as a 12 year old from Ian Snodin , he's probably 15 now , still at school so we may not hear much about him as we quite rightly keep a lid on these youngsters. So a few signs there for some cautious optimism for the coming season, just need 2 or 3 per year to show signs of talent.

Didn't realise that, pretty clear from what I've read that there are plenty of skills, outside of normal football ones, to develop vision skills.
