Everton Youth Teams Thread

Last night we had Davies, Holgate, DCL and Lookman in the team and subs. If the manager felt Kenny was ready why would he not pick him ?
Martina is a free transfer and realises that he has fallen firmly on his feet by getting a move to Everton, I doubt that he will be banging on the managers door demanding first team games, it seems that Kenny is not impressing the managent team as much as some fans...... but, that's alright because DCL seems to be impressing the management team more than some fans....opinions.

Maybe he's making Kenny earn his chance first? I.e. not just promoting him straight into the team from the U23 squad but making him "work for it" by proving it regularly in training first. Bit like with Davies last season.

Hopefully he selects Kenny for the team against Sevilla. Who knows. Maybe he'll produce a 10/10 and be in the team for Stoke. Probably not, but it gives me hope just to imagine it.

That must be a dilemma for young players offered a chance of regular first team action and a chance to impress on a loan deal, whereas Kenny may think staying at USM FF would be better and saying to Koeman, " OK tell which aspects you want me to improve on , which weakness I have , what I need to do that will make you pick me for the 1st team squad. "

Koeman admits Everton man’s future unclear, potential for loan deal

Everton starlet Jonjoe Kenny is unsure where his playing time may be this season despite shining for England U20’s this close season, with Ronald Koeman admitting the starlet could be sent out on loan before the transfer window closes.

The Toffees boss has admitted that he is holding off on making any decision in relation to the 20-year-old’s future after his surprise omission for the Europa League ties against Ruzomberok.

Some Everton fans were surprised by Kenny’s absence, with the youngster seen in some quarters as a natural replacement for the injured Seamus Coleman.

After captaining Everton U23s to winning their respective league title in 2016-17, the versatile defender was also a key player in England U20’s World Cup triumph and as such Evertonians believed they may see him gracing the Goodison Parkturf this forthcoming season.

But, with the purchase of Cuco Martina and Mason Holgate’s ability to offer right-back cover, it appears the Blues boss has other ideas.

“We know that we have several options for his position with Mason Holgate, with Cuco Martina and Kenny – and, finally, the best will play,” Koeman told The Liverpool Echo.

“Of course, we are looking at the development of young players and what we did with Dowell was the best way to develop the player.

“And at the end of this pre-season we will take a decision: if Jonjoe is not really close to a position in the first-team then maybe we will think about what the best is to develop the player.

“They did a great season last season in the under-23s and they need to make the next step. It is really difficult for young players to get a place in the team.”

Koeman has shown during his time at Everton that he is willing to give young players a chance to play, with Holgate, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tom Davies and Ademola Lookman all having opportunities in the Premier League.

Kenny looks set to have a bright future at the Goodison Park side but the most-important thing for his development currently is regular senior football.

With this unlikely to be available at Everton, it looks like it will suit all parties if the 20-year-old spends the upcoming campaign at a Championship club and returns to Merseyside as a better player in nine months’ time.
