Everton Youth Teams Thread

With all the summer activity we have had and is likely to continue.. do any of last years youth stand a chance?

Those that broke through obviously have the best.
Lookman I feel is in the plans in the least populated part of our team.
DCL might find it harder but should get some run outs
Holgate - depends on injuries I feel. Won't be first choice but should get game time. Hopefully in the middle

Of those that haven't broken in:
Dowell - considering our lack of talent out wide I would hope he is give a shot. Can he move centrally? Feel it's make or break for him this season.
Walsh - he is fighting in the most stocked part of the team in my opinion. Klaassen just arriving. Rooney on the way if he plays a little deeper. I feel Walsh doesn't play as a typical number 10 but would like to hear from the experts who he needs to dislodge as an example of his true position? I would love to see him break in, but else 1 season in a team no lower than the championship might prove him. Maybe a newly promoted side?
Jon joe Kenny - ready. Put him in!

So why I started this was to ask the question.. would you want to see a Sigurdsson (or another) coming or take a punt on youth?
Do we have that patience and mentality to promote our own or with our new cash we must drive for NSNO?

I have always leaned to promoting youth, especially when I didn't consider the new acquisition to be materially superior and the youth in question could reach that level just with a chance. Dowell and Walsh I feel can reach the level we want, but need a chance to prove it. I cannot think of a RB I would rather see come than given Kenny a shot. Thoughts?
Good points. With Europa it's a long and busy season. I think we all hope that the yoof get some run outs. Lookman, Kenny and DCL look most likely IMO

I was thinking the same, but when you consider the prize at the end of the rainbow.....champions league football for winning it. I'd be surprised if too many members of our victorious under 23 team played in it.

Lookman, Kenny and DCL will all be part of the 1st team set up this season.

I like what I've seen of Walsh but think he might need to move to get regular opportunities. He needs to be playing meaningful 1st team football to aid his development.

Personally I don't see Dowell making it with us. I don't see him as being strong/forceful/dynamic enough. Real shame as I was very excited about the thought of him coming through but he doesn't seem to have kicked on in the last couple of years.

Fraser hornby must still be injured or he'd probably been involved yesterday. Anyone know?
Last I saw was a couple of weeks ago, when it was a "won't be long" instead of a " rareing to go" you'd expect if he'd fully recovered, so maybe a week or two behind the rest and doing rehab. He's probably the most intriguing of our u18s, could be seen as a Fellaini, a Crouch , even a Big Dunc or a nobody by the end of the season.

Everton striker Calum Dyson set for Plymouth loan

Highly-rated Everton striker Calum Dyson is closing in on a loan switch to Plymouth Argyle, H I T C Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Dyson has come through the ranks at Everton and is highly-regarded within the corridors of power at Goodison Park.

The 20-year-old has yet to make his senior debut for Everton, but he has been a regular in the club's Under-23s for the last couple of seasons.

Dyson finished as joint top scorer for Everton's Under-23s last season, helping them win the Premier League 2 title despite spending the second half of last season on loan at Grimsby Town.

The powerful forward impressed at Grimsby, scoring four goals in 14 starts in League Two and was named Grimsby's Young Player of the Season.

Dyson also had loan stints at Stockport and Chester in the 2015/16 season and Everton feel a move to League One is the next stage in his development.

A number of clubs are understood to have made enquiries for Dyson this summer, but Plymouth have moved quickly to try and agree a deal with Everton.

Plymouth boss Derek Adams is keen to strengthen his attacking options as his side prepare for life back in League One and he sees Dyson as being a valuable addition to his plans.

This would be the young forward’s fourth loan spell already in his short career.

Dyson previously had brief loan stints with Stockport County and Chester in non-league.

He enjoyed a very profitable season in 2016/17.

Spending the first half of the year in Everton’s youth set up, the 20-year-old ended up as the top goal scorer for the Everton under-23 side despite leaving to join Grimsby Town on loan in January.

Dyson was brought in as a replacement for Omar Bogle at Grimsby Town so a lot of expectation was placed upon his shoulders.

However, the Everton starlet impressed at Blundell Park, netting four times in fourteen starts for the Mariners.

This earned him the title of Grimsby’s Young Player of the Season.

The talented youngster will now be hoping that a season in League One will help his development even more and convince Everton that he is worthy of a spot in the first-team squad.

Dyson is yet to make his senior debut for the Toffees and is now set to join Plymouth Argyle.

The Pilgrims, who were promoted from League Two last year, look like they have beaten a number of clubs to his signature.

Good luck to the lad. Decent standard to be playing and a step up from previous loans. Hope he does well. Do we know if it's a season long loan?

My local team, will pop up to home park and catch a few games if he's starting regularly. Always thought he might do well, he's tall and quick, seems to have filled out a bit in the last year, good luck to him.

Interested to see how our new French striker Mathis gets on, from what little information there is about him he seems like a different type of striker to what weve had in the under 23s past few seasons.

Hopefully unsy can do his magic with him and all the new lads coming in.

Looking forward to watching the under 23s this season.

If Unsy does it again with a basically new squad, he deserves mention for a head job somewhere - if he wants it. I think he does anyway. He appears to be exactly the type of modern manager who can be successful. Strong technical knowledge, a good leader, and very much a strong man manager. Despite being a defender, we play some great stuff under him.
