Everton Youth Teams Thread

Should have been a " Made in Everton " winner there with Dowell supplying Connolly, on to DCL who layed it off to Kenny to hit side netting. Dowell brings something different to this team , possibly the only attacking player who doesn't try to beat his man but as we've always known a sublime left foot that opens up defences with his through balls. Lookman looked very comfortable coming inside with the ball, tricky skills that with a bit more development will be match winning skills. Kenny and Connolly were reasonable without being outstanding, Kenny was very much what we have come to expect of him. Connolly got beaten for pace a couple of times by pacy wingers, but his defensive positioning has improved , seems better at knowing when to hold back to watch his man and as usual appeared in the opposing box a few times. DCL not really on long enough to make an impact except right at end.
Took the words out of my mouth mate. Only caught the last 15 mins and my first chance now to post. Dowell was excellent from what I saw. Not sure how long he'd been on but I understand he didn't start the game. He kept finding these little pockets and for once managed to influence the game more prominently than usual. The thing I liked about that "Made in Everton" attack was the fact that both our full backs were in or about the area at the same time, with Kenny being the extra person. Such a shame he didn't go across goal as either DCL or Solanke was in position to knock n the rebound (couldn't tell which)

...a big positive about his miss today was that the RB was in the penalty area in open play during injury time. Shades of Coleman perhaps.
Yeah. Kenny is quite similar to Coleman. I think he is better defensively but both are comfortable on the ball. Kenny looks to be a better crosser than Seamus (always been his downfall to being world class imo), but Coleman definitely has something else in front of goal and is always willing to take a man on, even going back to my first sight of him as a sub against Spurs. Kenny is more of a give and go type player.

If Kenny turns out to be as good a servant as Seamus for us I'll be well pleased, Defo deserves his chance next season whilst Seamus is injured.

...agree with all of that, Fred.

Noticed Duffus, Dyson & Gethin Jones got another 12 months.

Bit suspending, never seen anything of any of them to suggest they can make it here. Maybe just signing them up so we can receive a fee?

...and Hewelt given 2 years. I find the Duffus one a bit strange given we turned down a bid for him in January from high flying Brighton. You'd have thought he would've exploited his contract situation to find a lucrative long term deal somewhere, especially given he wasn't a regular in the U23s where he shared CF duties with Sambou.

wasn't he coming back off an injury Eggs, maybe they want a bit of time to look at him full fit, big lad the few time I have seen him, he hasn't really stood out to me

..he was Matey. He played really well in the recent game at Man Utd when he was up against Bailly. Scored a fine goal in that match. As you say, he's got the size and strength.

Does anyone know if Byrne had a year left on his contract or if he was released? Lad got a terrible injury, made an appearance if I remember rightly against the Saints at home ( u23's ) and I haven't seen or heard of him since.
