Everton Youth Teams Thread

..that's a very fair point, Billy but I simply can't see the advantage of Davies playing U19 football for England at this stage.

I think it's simply down to the tournament coming up for the U21's and there's no reason to bring him in to the group now as he's dislodging someone that helped them qualify. His time in the U21's and above will come.

Couple of interesting tidbits in here.

Everton have invited Jurgen Klinsmann's son Jonathan for a trial.

The 19-year-old was awarded the Golden Glove as best goalkeeper when USA won the CONCACAF Under 20 Championship earlier this month with a penalty shoot-out victory over Honduras.

Jonathan, whose father Jurgen was sacked as USA coach last November, plays for California University and also has a German passport.

He is due to link up with his country's Under 20 squad for a training camp in London next week before travelling up to Everton's Finch Farm training ground.

And

The USA have also invited Everton's young left-back Antonee Robinson to join up with them next week.

The talented 19-year-old has battled back from a knee injury to recover his place in Everton's title-chasing Under 23 side this season.

However, he is out of contract at the end of the season and has been attracting interest from clubs in England and abroad.

I seem to remember Robinson actually played for a USA team , maybe u 17 or 18. I'm a fan of his , I like his attacking style and given the deals we've given to others who had to come back from significant injuries like Williams, McAleny, Browning , Grant then I'd have thought he's worth a two year contract to see if he can push on from the U23s. At the moment he's potentially cover for Baines and certainly the best current U23s LB, I think if he had a chance this season he'd take it ......but come summer we've got Galloway, Garbutt and even Connolly pushing to make an impression at LB. A tough call .

Everton Academy director Dr Peter Vint has left the Merseyside club after only one year in the job.

Vint, recruited from the Team USA Olympic Committee, has made a sudden and unexpected departure days after he announced the appointment of a new head of Academy coaching.

There is no official explanation at this stage for his exit beyond the American being allowed to pursue ‘other projects’. However, there was no suggestion a change was imminent when Vint oversaw more additions to his department last week.

Only six days ago the director publicly welcomed a new head of Academy coaching Dave Adams from Swansea. The club's press release stated this was ‘following an extensive recruitment process led by Dr Peter Vint’, with Vint adding the new arrival ‘will be a tremendous complement to our coaches, to me and our Academy management team’.

Less than a week later, Everton are seeking Vint's replacement.

“Peter has left the club to pursue other opportunities. We wish him the best in his future pursuits,” the club confirmed.

Vint moved to Everton last season in what was intended to be a forward-thinking measure to ensure the club secured one of the leading sports science experts.

He was headhunted by Everton following his work in the United States where he was senior director of competitive analysis, research and innovation for the country’s Olympic committee.

His appointment came at a time when it was intended he would form a close working relationship with former manager Roberto Martinez. However, Martinez's demise in the second half of last season followed by the appointment of Ronald Koeman left the new arrival looking isolated in his role before he had settled into his office.

There have been murmurings at Academy level that Vint's lack of football experience was creating a challenging and at times difficult environment in the junior levels.

It is known several specialist football coaches at Goodison did not particularly agree with some of the changes he was introducing.

In an interview with Telegraph Sport earlier this season, Vint acknowledged his methods were a break from tradition and he was encountering cynicism.

The American had admitted to encountering some doubts over his methods

“I have experienced a bit of that,” he said. “It comes from some uncertainty and curiosity and perhaps even some discomfort people have about having someone who comes from such a different background being put in this position. Who is this guy? What does this mean? Is he going to ‘Moneyball’ us?”

Earlier this week Vint’s teenage son took to social media to claim he was signing for Manchester United rather than heading to Everton’s youth set-up. The 15-year-old later deleted the post. Everton's coaches were aware of the youngster and had not been particularly impressed with him, but Goodison officials are adamant that is not related to Vint's departure.

Everton's current head of operations at the Academy, Joel Waldron, is in the frame to fill the vacancy.

You're right. I think it comes down to who you prefer Connolly or Robinson? Connolly has gone out and proved himself at Wigan, and Galloway and Garbutt have both done well with their opportunities (at least at Everton - the loans have both been disasters).

Venkman's approach wasn't appreciated?
