Three things: first big clubs like City pay good money to really young players to join their Academy. Should we start shelling out up to hundred of thousands on long shots (every youth player under 16 is a long shot)? There are only so many players who are good enough to play in the PL one day. There are less than 500 first team Premier League players each year and those players come from about 20 different age groups. So by simple maths, if your U18 team has 20 players, getting one of those to the PL would be a good result because most players are bought to the first team from elsewhere.I hope that TFG start to work ruthlessly with our younger age teams because for too long they have just been stagnating with little to no prospects of ever getting into our first team.
If it were me, I would look at the U21s and ask the coaching staff to score each player on a scale of 1-10 (1 being "never going to make it" and 10 being "nailed on for our First Team). Anyone lower than say 7 or 8 would be shipped out with U18s promoted in their place.
I would then repeat the same decision whenever a player hit 18/19. We need a production line of players who have realistic prospects of playing for us, not Salford or someone else lower down the pyramid.
Let’s be honest, none of the U21s look close to being good enough to play or even sell. Graham is the one exception perhaps.Three things: first big clubs like City pay good money to really young players to join their Academy. Secondly, most Academies work on the assumption that each age group only has couple of potential first team players. It's just what it is. But those teams couldn't operate without enough players to field a full team so the rest are basically just making up the numbers.
Third, Everton has made quite a lot of money from youngsters sold to lower level teams. Not millions, but still money. Just because a kid is not going to play in the PL doesn't necessarily mean all the money was wasted.
Players are humans and have choices.I hope that TFG start to work ruthlessly with our younger age teams because for too long they have just been stagnating with little to no prospects of ever getting into our first team.

We wouldn't be able to field a team if we didn't keep players like Welch around for a while, who tbf has been on multiple loans.Let’s be honest, none of the U21s look close to being good enough to play or even sell. Graham is the one exception perhaps.
What is the point in keeping the likes of Reece Welch and naming him captain when he is a league one defender at best most likely.
We have done it for years and while you can make a few quid here and there, we are never going to compete with the “Big 6” type teams financially. Therefore, we have to try and create a way of developing youth in greater quantity and being more ruthless is the best way of doing it.
1 every 2 years is probably a good barometer to judge it on.Three things: first big clubs like City pay good money to really young players to join their Academy. No offense but you have no clue what you are talking about and should listen to those more knowledgeable than you.Let’s be honest, none of the U21s look close to being good enough to play or even sell. Graham is the one exception perhaps.

That was horse driven, I'm not that ancient !Is she related to Ernie?
Can we get to Ajax standards of development though? As a reminder, club has sold Dobbin, Cannon and Simms who were Academy products for a combined fee of over 20 million. None of these were really good enough for the first team.
Just like in first team football, the younger under 21s do need the odd 'experienced' player around them to help them through games etc.Let’s be honest, none of the U21s look close to being good enough to play or even sell. Graham is the one exception perhaps.
